Taking Medication After Being Sleeved

Recommended Posts

I was Sleeved on 10-15-12 and have been doing really good. I am currently crushing my blood pressure medication in order to take it, but lord that is just not tasty at all and a pain in the butt!

How long before I should feel comfortable taking small pills with a sip of Water?

Advice is greatly appreciated

I am 2 weeks post op - my doctor gave me acid blocker meds that are little balls in a foil package that I take each day. There's no taste so that's okay. I also take Effexor that's in a honkin' giant orange capsule, also filled with little balls. I open it and shake the balls into my mouth and swallow them. That's okay, too.

Now my Blood Pressure medicine is a different story - it is a white tablet, but the trick is that it is extended release, so it can't be crushed. My blood pressure started going up after surgery, so I said to heck with it - I take it whole. I also take Ambien to sleep at night, and I take them whole as well. So far, no problems. I was sleeved in Mexico so I can't just go to the doc if anything goes wrong, and I know that I might be taking a chance, but my high BP was giving me hellacious headaches so it was either one BP pill or two headache pills. I chose the BP pill.

Whatever you decide to do, don't do it because I am doing it - do what you feel is best for you. Good Luck!

Ive been taking Tylenol extra strength rapid release caplets. They are pretty small and I can get both down together with one sip of Crystal Lite. Today I took a vicodin which is pretty big, Tylenol wasn't cutting through the pain I started having Monday after returning to work when my body wasn't ready. (Surgeon approved, of course.) I strained my stomach muscles which are still healing from sleeve and hernia repair 2 weeks ago today. I hope I'm feeling better to go back on Monday-I miss work! Good luck and don't worry about taking pills, I'm sure you'll be fine -just don't take too much drink with them to swallow!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
