Two Dumb Questions :)

Recommended Posts

Hi sorry for these questions but actually am curious! Ok, one I'm on soft foods.... I love yogurt can't do plain .... is everyone not eating flavored yogurts?! Like chiaboni? There's are not super low sugar. And does anyone know what the number we should keep our sugar to daily!?

Also is there a way to only track Protein on MFP my fitness pal, or see it where it shows calories?!

I've found that different docs have different ideas on carbs (sugars). I eat the flavored yogurts as long as they are fat-free. My doc's opinion is that as long as most of your carbs are "good" carbs it's OK (fruit is a good carb). If you have Kroger grocery stores where you live, their Carb Master line of yogurt is really good. Only 4 gr carbs in a 6 oz container. Not quite as much Protein as Greek yogurt (9 gr) but still very good.

Some people get the plain non-fat Greek yogurt and add some of the sugar free syrups to it (like Torani or DaVinci) but I don't care for that as much as I like the fruit flavored yogurts.

In comparing non-fat Greek yogurts, I think Yoplait's Protein & carbs are a bit better than Chobani and some others so that's the one I most frequently eat.

As far as MFP - can't help much there. I got frustrated with it and went back to keeping an old fashioned pen/paper food journal :)

If ur on the mfp app on ur iPhone (and I'm saying iPhone because I tried showing a friend on her blackberry and she didn't have that option)...u know where u login ur food? At the top it says summary and u have the option of clicking daily weekly and I think monthly? Click on weekly and at the top right corner there are a bunch o different graph type icons. Click on them and explore! One of them tells u how much Protein u should eat in a week, how much u have eaten and If u achieved ur goal. Also does the same for cholesterol sugar carbs etc. I hope that makes sense !! :)

I say we really shouldn't have any unnatural sugar, we don't need it. Plain greek yogurt is full of Protein and delicious!

I use plain Greek yogurt out I always add fruit or berries to it. I especially like frozen mango chunks & the frozen dark cherries. I defrost the fruit, sprinkle with cinnamon and mix into my yogurt. Not super sweet, but cuts the taste of the Greek yogurt.

I like the Dannon Light 'n Fit Greek Yogurt. It comes in vanilla, Cherry, strawberry, and I think Blueberry. Artificial sweeteners, nonfat, and 9 grams of Protein in an 80 calorie serving. Yum!

Sorry, 12 grams of Protein. There was a thread on here a little while ago about "fake" Greek yogurt. Read the labels to make sure yours doesn't have thickeners, gelatins, gums, etc.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
