Im new to this sight. I live in Alberta and am part of a amazing program called Weight Wise. I was just approved for the Sleeve last week however I have decided to wait until next spring/ summer for surgery (its better for my job). In our program we have 10 classes to complete about various topics (ie health, healthy food choices, and stress managment) . Each of us have a team that consist of a Dr, nurse, physcologist, and diatitian who we see aproximately once a month. When they feel you are ready and have made appropriate life style changes you are then sent to the surgeon and approved for surgery. The entire process is about 8 months to a year. It seems like a long time, at least it did to me but it has gone by fast and I can honestly say I have learned so much about myself and my health it is unbelievable. I have been dieting since I was 10 and I thought I knew all the ins and outs on health and wellness but through this process I have come to realize I had so much to learn about the mental part of obesity. I knew how to eat healthy; I think most of us do, its how to apply that into our everyday life. I have a ways to go until my surgery however, I am so excited to be on this journey !!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
