ddgnj 6 Posted October 25, 2012 My BMI is 30 and I'm having trouble finding a Dr in NJ that will perform the sleeve surgery on me. Any ideas? I understand that I will need to self-pay and I really don't want to go to Vegas or Mexico. Thanks.
IsB 209 Posted October 25, 2012 Every insurance company that I've heard of has a cutoff at 40 BMI or 35 with 2 comorbidities from a list they put together. It could be that the surgeons see 30 as a liability risk and won't do it even if it's self paid. Unfortunately they come up with these arbitrary numbers based on a chart and your stuck with it. Good luck 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
KatieOkieDokie 171 Posted October 26, 2012 I have the opposite problem.. my surgeon won't do surgery on me until I lower my BMI to 50 or below and I'm in the upper 60's so I have some weight to lose before I can have weight loss surgery.. so frustrating!! I really wish they would just do away with the BMI and focus on actual weight, and muscle.
