My third visit with the surgeon was yesterday. I have completed all of my pre-surgery requirements; however, he stated that I have a severe case of obstructive sleep apnea and the only missing piece to the puzzle is the CPAP study. I wasn't scheduled for this until November 17th but I called the Sleep Center yesterday & they were able to change my appointment to next Wednesday!! Have any of you had to have this follow up study done & what does it consist of? I am hoping to get a sleeve date in late Nov. early Dec. Since this WLS journey began in July I have lost over 40 pounds and many inches as I have went from a size 28 to a 20!!! :)

I didn't have to have a sleep study for WLS, but I did have a sleep study several years ago, I can't imagine it has changed much. Basically you go in late in the evening, they hook about a million wires to your scalp and body along with a couple of other sensors that make you immedialy think... "Oh, this will help me go to sleep"...LOL. Then they tell you to go to sleep. They have a window to observe you and monitor everything from outside your room. In the morning after a HORRIBLE nights sleep you go home. That pretty much sums it up. Amazing enough even with the little bit of sleep that you do get they can get some really good statistics from the study about how many times you wake up an hour and how many times you actually stop breathing. I ended up being diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea and had a major sinus surgery and that is probably the only reason I didn't need to do a sleep study.

I have to agree with Gene. I've had a couple of sleep studies for apnea one my original diagnosis and the 2nd to recheck my pressure and get a new machine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
