Why in the world am I gaining?! I have been working out everyday, staying under my calorie goal (800), and increased my water....what am I doing wrong? Feeling discouraged. Didn't think this experience would be so emotional. Any suggestions?

How's your sodium intake? That paired with increased Water could contribute to gained "water weight."

I've heard a lot of people do this to break a stall. As a pre op patient it blows my mind! But I've heard it works :)

That's because if your body thinks it's in starvation mode it's not going to give up weight as easily.

I love my body and I am glad I have one but it is such a numbskull. It doesn't listen to what I tell it.

I say, "I'm on a diet now, you'll be getting less calories but you won't be starving."

All it hears is "blah, blah, blah,...starving".

Then it says to itself, "Duh.... starving...store fat."

Hehehe...yes!My weight bounced up this week after a great stair step 12 pound loss and last night I just couldnt resist the mash potatoes.Well, this morning it is down 2 pounds again.

My new motto is 6 days of very low carbs one night of mashed potatoes...lol

Try something different!

My bet on this one is Water retention. The reason I think this because you indicate that this is a more "emotional" experience than you expected.

Being more emotional is typically a chemical response to too much estrogen. Guess what is trapped in all that fat you've been hauling around all these years---Estrogen. Now that you're burning the fat, all that estrogen is getting released into your bloodstream. It is not uncommon for this to change a woman's cycle in almost any way imaginable.

So Dr. Sleever says you are probably retaining Water & don't be surprised if your little friend becomes unpredictable for a while.

(I'm not really a doctor. I just play one on the radio)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
