I am seriously contemplating getting sleeved. I am going to a seminar next week, but am curious about the rest of the process. What else do I need to do? Or is there a resource I can go to so that I have all of the information? I just want to make an educated choice. Thank you for any help, I really appreciate it.

Def go to the seminar, you will get so much information and questions answered there, every dr and every insurance company wants different things from us. I went to a seminar, had a consult with my surgeon, and my insurance company wanted 6 months of medically supervised diet I started that in Feb finished that in Aug, they also wanted a psych eval done I did that in July. Everything was finished by my last dietitian appointment in Aug and sent in to the insurance company for approval! Took them about 2 wks to approve it and they did! if you have sleep apnea or need a sleep study the doc will make u get one. and maybe and upper gi too. At pre admission testing which I just had on Monday I had to have an ekg done blood work done and a breathing test done to make sure I was ok to go under.

But def dont be afraid to ask questions everyone here is always willing to answer! Best of luck to you sweetie! :)

The first thing I did after attending seminar was call my insurance company and ask them what was the procedure for approval for WLS. Then I made appt. w.Bariatric surgeon. While waiting for that appointment, I also made some appts. for specialists needed: cardiologist, Pulmonilogist, mammogram (within year snd I needed one anyway), blood-work, etc. Everything went smoothly-the only 'glitch' was my sleep apnea-I had to do a second sleep study since my apnea is severe! (This saved my life, actually!) I went to the seminar on July 24, 2012; met surgeon 1st visit on Aug. 10th, Surgery- Oct. 11th! The ins. approval took the longest- 2 weeks to get confirmation number, but I needed this time to mentally prepare. Good luck, if I can do thus, anyone can! 

Hi holly. Just curious what insurance company you have. I have BCBS of il and I just heard back yesterday that I just need clearance from acardiologist and pulmonologist. I have never been to one so I am hoping all goes well. These two appt are within the next eleven days and then praying for an approval!

So u had ur surgery 10/11? How are you feeling? :-)

Thanks for asking! I'm 2 weeks post/op today. I'm sore still due to hiatal hernia surgery at same time (I didn't know I even had one-discovered I have 3 hernias, actually! The other 2 will be fixed after I lose 100 lbs.-fun!) I returned to work last Mon. 10/22- too soon! Came home in tears, back to dr. on Tuesday and he said I was fine, I didn't tear anything (thought I did!), but I went to work too soon. He recommends 2 weeks off work and I tried to do only one. My bad! My empire BC BS is NY state employee (NYSHIP)-I'm civil service, secretary at elementary school. This surgery not only saved my life I believe-it is giving me a life! How I was living before last August was not living-it was a slow, pound by pound suicide! good luck! I am here for you!

Your story is inspiring!!! I hope i can message you in a month and say hey I was approved and I did it! Lol. Yes my doc said two weeks I was hoping for three just to be safe. At least you didn't tear anything and listened to your body and went to the dr. :-) and it seems pretty common that people have hernias and don't know about it until after surgery.

Thank you so much for all of your tips. I will begin the rest of my research and start knocking everything out. I'm really excited for this new journey and I can't wait for it to begin.

Good News! I started the process with the insurance company. Thankfully I am paid at 100%. :). I'm waiting for my packet, and appointments and I will be all set. I'm not sure how long of a preop diet I will have, but I am so excited about this journey I will be making!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
