November Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Tweety,

If I can throw my 2 cents in. I know when I was about 15, my mom was in a weight loss program, and was successfully losing weight. It really bothered me. I remember crying a lot, mostly because I knew at that age, that it meant that my mom was not happy with herself. The woman that I idolized was not happy with herself. It shook me to the core. I would not be surprised if our children feel that way. i do not discuss my band or weight loss with my kids. Probabaly because of what I went thru as a kid, now that I think about it. The mind is an amazing thing.

Angela,

Are you going to do a monthly update of all that are here from Nov bandings? I love reading those. By the way... Happy April!

Misty

You know I hadn't really thought about that. We are about the same size right now and I guess she could be uncomfortable with that and with the fact that I didn't like what I was. I do try harder to look good now and wear more attractive and age appropriate clothing. (I don't want to look like I am an old frump anymore, because I don't feel that way anymore.)

I'm having trouble making a decision. I think I might need .1 or .2cc taken out of my band. In the morning, I can only drink a shake. Sometimes that's also true at noon, and sometimes I can eat both lunch and dinner, but only if I eat veryververy slowly. So if I get hurried, impatient, or hungry, I mess up by eating liquid high cal calories. I really am on the fence.

I can get a little removed so I can eat more, not drink hi cal drinks to compensate, and not risk pouch dilation...which I already had once.

Or I can stay where I am and try to step up to my band, eating more slowly and smaller bites in order to get enough in and not eat liquid calories, and basically work toward living well with that tight a band.

I'm sure open to opinions!

Okay, here is my 2 cents. OF course, I think you will get many opinions on this because it is afterall a personal preference. I LIKE food and LIKE to eat. I would feel very deprived on a liquid or a too restricted diet. I am greatful that I can eat and in that manner, over eat at times. I don't think you should be restricted to liquids and that is not the purpose of the band. Take a little bit out and see how it goes. Just a little will give you a little more comfort and freedom. AFTERALL this is a life change and who wants to live their life uncomfortable and only drinking liquids? And, before we go there, I am aware that if I were more restricted I would lose weight faster. It is a personal choice we all must make.

HELP, I lost my link for the tickers!

I am sooo sorry. Perhaps she is just used to seeing her mom the other way? Im with you on the Hair loss thing. Hey, how the heck did you lose sooo much weight. You go girl. Also, I have to say that I think my sagging arms and legs look worse now then before. Just gross. But, Ill take care of that later.... Hang in there! She's a kid, what does she know?

Marni- I just really try to eat the right things and get exercise. Protein first, making sure to get atleast the recommended 70 in and usually getting a lot more than that. I do have to confess that this weekend I have been a bad girl and gained 2 lbs. I knew I was being bad and now I will work extra hard this week to get in the exercise I need to get rid of it.

My worse area is my lower belly. I am hoping that all the exercise will help the saggy baggies on both sides. Flat in the middle, saggy on the sides. I think that is an order from my McDonald days. LOL.

I spent the weekend with my girlfriend that had the lap band 10 years ago and lost all her weight then got a Tummy Tuck and breast list. She looks better than she ever has. I am so jealous. It was motivation to get this weight off and loan payment paid off so I can go get sculpted into a tight godess as my reward. This body thing is just so much work. Thanks for the support from all of you and all the struggles we have to go threw. By the way Vegas was great and I am feeling very sleep deprived today. It was the first time I really went out drinking since surgery. I must say the next day my stomach was very angry with me and all I wanted was a big Breakfast burrito and couldn't even get scrambled eggs down. That was very frustrating. Some days I wish I could just not have to deal with the restrictions but it doesn't work that way. Had no problem getting the cocktails down though. Have a great day everyone!!! :D

I went to the surgeon today since I haven't eaten anything of substance in 12 days. I've been back on liquids for the past week. The thought was that the RA flare has my tissue swollen causing more restriction. They did remove .5 cc so am now back at 2 and I was able to eat today.

I didn't think about it but this all started about the time I switched Vitamins (used up the chewables and will to a pill) and also added the Calcium. They don't think those should have had any factor but suggested I go off of both for a week and in a week start back on the Vitamin. If that goes well, after a week I'll add in the calcium.

I'm 25 pounds from my revised goal weight so making good progress.

Tom

i am still having troublems getting down real food. When I do I end up throwing up, and the Dr removed all the Fluid he could when I was in the hospital. It makes it rough. I try to remind myself this is temporary, but with weight loss like this I hate to complain... I ordered the complaint bands too.

Ok guys, I need your opinion on something. My DH and I were out of town Sat. night, and my 17 year old son was home with a friend spending the night. He called at midnight to let me know he was home like he usually does. The next day, while we were on our way home, he sent me a text message telling me that they had snuck out of the house after he called me, and got caught egging cars and got tickets for disordrly conduct, and has to go to court. Needless to say, I was more than a little upset, and grounded him until his 18th birthday, which is June 8. This comes on top of finding out a couple weeks ago that he has been smoking for the last 7 months and lying to me about it. Then, after we got home, we found out that he had been surfing porn sites on our computer(he has his own lap-top, but has been having problems getting internet service at our house). I had told him he could use my computer for school work only, and now find out that he has been looking at porn! My 8 year old daughter also uses that computer! So, my question is, does anyone think I am overreacting by grounding him for that long? He is going to miss prom now, and is furious, but I figure he did this to himself. I am second-guessing myself now, and would just like some other opinions. Thanks for listening.

Oh Connie, I know exactly how you feel. I too have an 8yr old daughter and an 15 1/2 yr old son. My daughter told me last night that he cusses at her all the time when I am not around. I was very mad because we do not do that in our house around the kids and he is teaching her bad behavior. I don't know about making him miss prom. You only get your senior prom once in a lifetime. I would maybe say instead of making you miss prom......yes his own fault.........your going to clean out the garage or something that you know he will not like as punishment. The porn thing is really hard to monitor. We only have one computer in our house and both kids use it. You just need to get the adult monitoring system to block any of this but like you said he has a lap top and can get onto them that way. Boys will be boys and we can only talk to them about the danger of that stuff. I was a bad teenager and snuck out and did all kinds of stupid things so I try to remember what it was like but as now a parent you can't be their best friend. You have to teach them that there are consiquenses for your actions...........so think it threw next time. You do what you think is the right punishment but the hardest thing of the punishment is sticking to it when they hate you and won't talk to you. Like your the bad one when they are the one that did the action.....................teenagers!!!!!!! It is frustrating but you only understand it later when you have your own kids. You can't expect your teenager to be like okay I was wrong and I will do my punishment with no arguments.........NOT!! It isn't going to happen. They are turning into appionionated adults and that the world revolves around THEM!!! I feel for you Connie. It is a hard, tuff love thing but we have to stick to our guns,,,,,,,with the teenage girls that is sometimes literally. I am not looking forward to my little girl becoming a teenager...........LORD HELP ME!!!!! Good luck.:faint:

What about a special dispensation just for prom night, if he earns it somehow. Prom is an awfully special memory.

Maybe he can find a place to volunteer with lung cancer patients, lose his computer except for homework, and offer a full Saturday of free car washing to anyone who drives by.

I like the way you think Betsyjane!!! You can call the cancer society in your area and they have all kinds of scared streight programs for teenagers like they do for drunk driving programs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
