November Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Tom, I think you should wear some capris and post a picture so we can all see! I hope you start feeling better soon--I have the OA, not the RA, and I know yours is much harder to deal with. Keep plugging away, though, it will get better soon, I hope. If your nausea doesn't go away soon, I would definately see your doctor, just to make sure it isn't something else.

Now, totally off topic--are any of you watching American Idol? I was just wondering if everyone else is as annoyed with the fact that Sanjaya is still on the show as I am. He sucks, and really needs to go. Did you see that hair last night? What a freak!!

i have been having a few problems, latly. 2 weeks ago, I go the stomach flu that was going around, and I started to vomit.. ALOT! After a week of not even being able to hold down Water, I finnally ended up in the hospital. It was scary. They thought I might have moved my band. Thank God, that was not the case. But they did remove all the saline from the band, and I was on IV for 3 days. It was rotten. It has been a week and a half, and I still am having troubles holding down anything substantial.. except.. cookies! What the hell is that? It is not a joke, I can hold down Cookies, but I am struggling with the pastina I ate for dinner... Crazy stuff.

So, if i may offer a bit of advice.. sanitize.. sanitize...sanitize... As banded people we are not as good at dealing with the stomach flu as others.

On the American Idol topic. My husband is way more of a fan of it than I am and after seeing him last night he said that if he doesn't get voted off tonight that he is never watching it again!!! It has honestly starting to become more of a freak show :faint: than a talent show thanks to the voter though. I still think the voting has got to be rigged some how??? We just love a good ol freak show as Americans don't we? Sad but that is what gets ratings anymore. I have my fingers crossed that he is out tonight!!!!:)

What a terrible experience you had, Misty!! Why are you having trouble holding down food, even with no saline in your band? Are you able to keep yourself hydrated, at least?? I'm glad you are feeling better now, but how awful to have to be hospitalized. :phanvan The good news: You will surely lose weight from this! The REALLY good news: You get COOKIES!!! :biggrin1:

Oh my god, and can you believe that tonight he wasn't even in the bottom 3? He doesn't even sing anymore!

That sounds horrible. It sounds worse then a flu. Could it have been food poisoning? I am glad you are doing better. It is a shame that when we are in the most need, we can not access the computer and get the support, encouragement and love we need.

I am so scared of getting the stomach flu because the last couple times I got it I ended up in the ER to get the anti nausea shot to stop from vomiting. It does sound like you might have gotten food poisening which happens a lot too. Thank goodness you are on the road to recovery. Scary thing to happen. On the American Idol thing......thats it......I have officially been covinced it is not a talent show anymore its a freak show and I am not watching anymore.....NO MORE!!!!!

Hey Vikki--good luck in Vegas--have fun!! As for American Idol--the fact that Howard Stern and the website votefortheworst.com are telling people to vote for him does not help, does it? It kind of ruins it for the rest of it who really want to see the best singer win. It's just all a big joke now, and Sanjaya is eating it up--why else would he wear his hair like that? But, I am going to keep watching and voting till my fingers are numb, so that maybe the best singer(Melinda, Lakisha, Jordin) will actually win. I hope too many people don't give up, or he may actually win this thing, and that would really be a shame. Simon has said that he will quit the show if that happens, but I guess we'll see. I say VOTE, VOTE, VOTE people!

I just got back from Reno and Im lucky that I came home with shoes! Good luck to you!

Also, did the Napa thing and let me tell you it won't take you 7 drinks to get to where you want to go. Sharing a glass of wine got me going! It doesn't take much to get drunk!

I finally heard back from the surgeon and I'm going in Monday. I'm still not doing well consuming food. I've switched back to my blender and feel a bit better since I've gotten some nutrition but still feel weak. My mom had gotten me a bathroom scale some time ago that I've never used. I have no idea how accurate it is but if it's anywhere close to right, I've lost quite a bit of weight in the past week. I guess not eating has that effect!

Anyway, as I lay around and sip my bons-bons (can't eat them!), I watched Oprah the other day. They had a minister that came up with the idea of a complaint free world. To make you more conscious of the amount you might complain about various things, he came up with one of the rubberized bracelets (kind of like the Lance Armstrong yellow ones from a few years back) that his church gives away (the ask for donations). Every time you complain, you move the Bracelet to the other arm. The goal is to keep the bracelet on the same arm for 21 days as that is how long it typically takes to develop a new habit. The link for ordering the bracelet is:

http://acomplaintfreeworld.fobby.net/Complaint_Free_Bracelet_Order_Form.php

(You may need to cut and paste the link.)

Being positive is key to successful weight loss so this might help all of us too. Along that line, maybe we need to wear something (even a rubber band) that we move every time we make less than ideal food choices. We all know what we're suppose to eat. For me, keeping a food log was a great way to stay on track. The moving of a band might work too. Friends/family would be watching the band so it might make us stop and think before we order the Wendy's chocolate Butterfinger Fix 'N Mix frosty. (Not, of course, that I would ever do such a thing. <G>) (BTW, with the complaint bracelet, if you tell someone they need to move theirs for complaining, you have to move yours too!)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
