In humans, the stomach has a volume of about 50 mL when empty. After a meal, it can expand to hold about 1 liter of food, [1] but it can actually expand to hold as much as 4 L.

My surgeon asks that a visit to the family doctor be made within 2 weeks of surgery just to make sure the meds not related to the surgery are still at the necessary dose and for a general check-up. The last time I saw my family doctor was on 3/31. I was 316 pounds then. I met my surgeon for the first time on 8/7 and was 288. (Used the LEARN program.) On 11/7, day of surgery, I was 280. Today I was 271. That's down 9 pounds in 2 weeks since surgery and 45 pounds since I started the Quest to get the surgery. My approximate target weight is 225ish so I'm about 1/2 way there.

I have my first follow-up with the surgeon and dietician on Monday but started on soft foods today. Suppose to add a new food each day to make sure I tolerate them well. I had 1/4 cup of cottage cheese with a 1/4 cup of fruit cocktail in Splenda. I've cheated a bit and had a few saltines and pretzels for crunch, but it was nice not having to clean up the blender after eating.

I am on full liquids and am only to have 3-4 oz. meals a day. I can have things such as blended Soups and even Cereal as long as it is soggy. I was doing great with this until Friday and things went downhill. I listened to my head and cheated by having some real food...and more than my 4 oz. unfortunately. :faint: I did chew everything to mush but I did it like 4 or 5 different times. I feel REALLY horrible about it and am trying to "safeguard" myself from doing it anymore. The scale is basically the same, thank goodness, I just hope I haven't done any damage or anything. Everything still feels the same and everything went down fine. Surely I would know if I had slipped or anything like that. Is anyone else struggling like me or am I alone on this? I feel like such a failure but I know that tomorrow is another day and I am determined to not let this get me down. I just have to stop!!

Denise

I was banded on the 8th and having been eating soft foods this week.(Not really mushies just soft) I can really eat MORE than I could last week which is making me a bit nervous. 4 oz. How do you measure that?I know I am eating more than that! I have had a few lumps in the chest and I am trying so hard to SLOW DOWN AND CHEW. I have lost about 13-15 pounds and have been walking BUT I KNOW I AM EATING TOO MUCH...;) I am going to use a 1/3 cup to measure everything to help myslef with Portion Control.< /p>

I am sooooooo PMSing. I want to eat everything in site. I just at a bagel (the first bread I've had since 11/2). I feel terrible right now. My back is killing me between my shoulder blades. It all started after the bagel. I think it swelled up inside...LOL.

I tried to eat some chicken breast tonight (Roasted Breast) and I got some down but it was TIGHT.. a little pain etc...YIKES ( I had a little bit of a CHIPOLTE Bowl w/no rice or lettuce yesterday and the bits of chicken were fine??) This is a learning process for sure. What works and what does not. I am still trying to stay of soft foods but its difficult. :tired

The only thing that worked for me was, walk, walk, walk. I walked at least 5-10 minutes every hour. I didn't have shoulder pain, but felt pressure in my belly; upper belly.

Good Luck to you. I hope you get a good nights sleep.< /span>

make sure you do take Tylenol and Gas X. Also drink slowly and not cold things...warm helps. Laying on your left side with your head up on acouplke of pillows will help. Make sure you do walk, it does help. I hope you feel better soon.

Congrats on the weight loss! That is wonderful!!

4 oz. is half a cup. I just use a measuring cup. I am really hoping to not disappoint my surgeon when I go for my appt. Tuesday but I can't worry about that. I will try to be good and keep walking and see what happens.

HAve you called the Doctor? Please do that first. Some people bruise easier than others. Also your liver might have been too big and they had to do alot of moving around. Sorry to hear that. Take care.

Hello, Everyone,

I'm baaaaccccckkkkkk! I was banded this past Monday (November 20th) and all is well. My surgeon repaired my hiatal hernia along with placing the band, so I got the 2 for 1 special!

For the next 6 weeks, my diet consists of liquids, liquids, and more liquids. Did I mention I'll be drinking a lot of liquids -- LOL. The purpose of the extended liquid diet is for healing and to meet the aggressive fill schedule my surgeon has planned for me.

In two weeks (December 6th), I'm scheduled to see my surgeon for the first fill. After the initial fill, I'll get small fills every two weeks thereafter to reach a proper level of restriction. Of course the same rules apply -- If I don't feel physically up to having a fill, don't want a fill, or don't need a fill, then I don't have to get one.

Thanks for all the posts and well wishes. Now, my focus turns to learning my closest ever new best friend and our journey to Onederland . . .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
