November Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Kristi,

i too had the same exact experience as you. i had been on the pre-op liquid diet for so long i wanted one final real meal the night before surgery. i ate lite compared to what i "normally eat" but no bowl movement for the next 5 days was the most painful thing in the world. the gas was trapped inside with no place to go. that is very good advice to any of the pre-op people out there. becareful on the last meal....

Fullofgrace,

You will be doing fine after surgery!!! Come back and tell us all about it.

I am going to tell my post op story for some of those of you who are still scared. I almost walked out of the surgery center before surgery. They were getting my IV's started, and I almost left. I was thinking, what in the world am I doing here? I am not in THAT bad of shape, I don't have any comorbidities, what in the Heck am I doing here? Then they gave me something to relax me. It worked. So I had the surgery.

I believe I have done very well with the surgery. Maybe better than most, but I think a lot of you can do this also. I had to drive from Tulsa to Dallas for my surgery, so we were staying in a nice place with workout equipment. My doc wants us to walk 30 mins a day if we can, so I did. I went into surgery around 830, and I think I was discharged around 11. At 4 pm I was awake and stir crazy at the motel, so I went and walked VERY slowly, for 30 minutes. It helped tremendously with the shoulder pain, and some of the gas pain. I realized later that I could have avoided the gas pain if I had ONLY had the Protein Drink the day before, and not have any meals. But you live and learn. I think just getting back up and walking everyday is a huge help. I am one week, and 1 day post surgery. Not taking any pain meds now. Well, every once in a while at work.

I need to go take care of family.......good luck to all of you November folks!!!

Kristi

I had my surgery on 11/6. My stomach swelling is starting to go down because I can eat about 2 ounces at a time now without a problem. I just don't know when I'm full. Sometimes I feel a tightening in my chest and I assume that's it, but sometimes I feel hungry at the same time. I am also still in some pain, so I don't know what I'm feeling inside. I'm trying really hard to stick to the diet exactlly (I have a pretty strict one), and I don't want to throw up.

Also, I only drank Protein Shakes for three weeks before surgery and I am still very gassy and haven't had a bowel movement yet, so that's not cool.

Congratulations Janey!

Do the best you can not to throw up. Sip, and take it one step at a time. Try to get in as much Water as you can. That may help a little to encourage a bowel movement. Have you tried taking milk of magnesia? It may help to make it easier for you. :)

I was banded Wednesday and everything went great!! Everyone at the hospital was wonderful! My surgery didn't take as long as they thought it would and they said that everything went beautifully. Although the pre-op diet was difficult, it is well worth it for how things go during and after surgery.

I am having gas pain.:faint: And it is miserable but overall I don't feel too bad. I have only taken one pain pill. I'm walking a lot to get that gas moving. It's time for it to move outta here! Glad to hear things are going well for November bandsters. If your surgery is coming up and you are terrifed, it's completely normal. I was petrified!! I kept thinking about getting up and leaving and trying dieting one more time but I knew deep down, I would fail just like every other attempt.

Well, I am going to try to get some sleep. It's the middle of the night here and I woke up with gas pain but I am starting to get sleepy again so I am going to give it a try. Wanted to check in and let everyone know how things were going and to check on everyone. Talk to you all later!

Denise

8 days since surgery and my official Dr. Malley weigh in today. I have lost 12.6 pounds. Starting weight 252.6 and today's weigh in 240.0. He told me to start eating some eggs, fish, cooked veggies and fruits. Heck, I can't even get down some cottage cheese without having hiccups. I don't have another appointment for 4 weeks.

I went to Walmart this morning and bought a digital scale. It was about $40.00. Anyway, I got it home after my appointment and weighed myself. It is about 4 oz more than Malley's scales. So, at least I can keep track pretty good.

Did you know that Sharon Osborne (Ozzy Osborne's wife) has the lap band? Sharon previously lost 125 lbs. She is now wanting it out. She is going to gain it all back!

I am not sure how soon I can start walking up to 30 minutes at a time? Anyone know? Vegge, there wak a young woamn with aa low BMI who had it done and she is fine! All four of us did well...only one stayed an extra day because of a bit more swelling than the rest of us. Good luck!:)

:) Well, I banded... sigh..The first two days for me were pretty difficult. As soon as the nausea patch wore off I started vomiting:eek: ! To be honest the gas was the least of my worries. So I stopped taking (ouch, pain scale about a7)the pain meds drank chicken broth which tends to cool an upset stomach and it finally worked after two days of misery.:sick I hoping the vomiting did not cause me any problems. I did notice so extra bleed on my incisions but I suppose that normal with being sick the way I was.

The pain is now down to about a 3 with just reg Extra Strength Tylenol. :) I was honsetly hoping for a little easier go with this, AND now really hoping I never have to have it taken out!

Its nice to hear the rest of you have done so well, its probably my week stomach and age that made it a little rougher on me.

My scalle says I have lost about 7#'s! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
