November Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

This is great news!! I am so glad to hear that the pain is minor....thank you for sharing that!! Now, about that dry mouth...is it because you still can't drink much? You are doing so well---you are an inspiration!! I leave on Tues. for my surgery on Wednesday..... so any advice you give is so helpful. Thanks!

If you can take a laxative to clear your bowels, do so. You don't want to have to strain after the surgery. It really helps to be able to go with relative ease. :) I guess the dry mouth is temporary. I don't know if it's because I can't drink a whole lot, but it gets better daily. Expect to be nervous, but it really is not a difficult surgery. I was really afraid of the unknown, but after having gone through with it, I came out surprised that it wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be.

Expect the gas pains. That is the worst part, but move around to help expel the gas. Best wishes to you on a safe and speedy surgery!! :)

dpingl, hang in there!! I think alot of us had to have a cardiac clearance before surgery, at least I did. Unless they find something really bad, I don't think it will keep you from having surgery. And look at it this way, if there is some problem, at least you are getting it checked out early and thoroughly. I have atrial fib as well as 2 bad heart valves that will need to be replaced soon....but they are allowing me to have the surgery!! So I am hopeful for you! Besides, you are one of our "Gang of 3", Nov. 8 Bandsters, so you have to be there with us, y'hear?? Let us know on Monday how it goes, please!! And we will keep you in our prayers this weekend!!

Karen

Today I am back to work. I think I figured out why my left side hurts worst than anything else. I think it is the port. I am only taking children's liquid tylenol today, so still have some pain. I sure this will get better with time. I'm not sure how much to eat and when to eat. I feel like I should eat, but I haven't been hungry today.

PS...Stay away from people who make you laugh...it hurts! :heh:

I am truly inspired by all the posts and the great surgery results for the November bandsters. I am holding on better than I expected with the pre-surgery diet. My husband and I fly out Friday and Saturday is my big day. I don't think I listed Dr. previously -- Dr. Kuri.

Gas-X sounds like something I should definitely pack.:)

Thank you SO MUCH to all the Newly Banded who have come back so soon after surgery to inspire and encourage the rest of us---you just don't know how much it helps and strengthens us!! What a great contribution you have made to our little group. I really can't thank you enough! I leave tomorrow for my surgery on Wednesday, and you have taken away so much of my anxiety. Thanks for your ideas and hints.... I will definitely take some Gas X with me, and keep on walking to ward off the pain.....

Hi there everyone,

I have done some more thinking and research and have decided to change my Dr. I was getting it done on Thursday with Dr. De La garza in Monterrey Mexico and now I am going to get it done in San Francisco with Dr. Cirangle. I was scared to do my surgery so far away and kept squashing it. Now I feel like I am being true to myself and my feelings. Hopefully I will be a November bandster still...Cross my fingers.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
