I am a month out now and recently I have noticed that I feel sick after I take my Vitamins at night. It only happens at night and I dont know why, it feels like my stomach and throat are burning and I feel like throwing up a lot to so is it just reflux or what?

I am three weeks out and just called my doc today about this very same thing. Feels like acid is shooting up my esophagus and I get really thick saliva. It affects me in the morning. My doc had me double up on my PPI dosage (one every 12 hours). We'll see how it goes.

I've never had an issue with reflux so this was very unexpected.

Good luck, hope you feel better.

I am 18mths out and still have this problem sometimes. Im 8 weeks pregnant so I get hungry at night. Eating or taking pills and then going lay down will sometimes hurt because all that stuff can't digest down because its no longer working with gravity. So stuff tends to come back up when you lay down. Thats why people have such bad reflux at night. Is there anyway you can take your vits an hour before you go lay down? That might help. Good luck!

1/3 of patients develop or get a worsening of gerd... I am one of those lucky peeps. Prevacid once per day and I am good.

Thinkthin, I also had this problem. Have you tried drinking a hot liquid in the morning? When you wake up you tend to get a build up of mucus in your chest and throat. My dr told me to drink the hot liquid as soon as I wake up. I drink a cup of coffee every morning and it has really helped. Also, milk is great for reflux!

This is very true! I'm pre op and get the occasional reflux flare at night after I take my meds. I try to take them and stay propped up in bed for 30-45 minutes (watch tv, read, get on here lol) so the pills can make it to my stomach and start to take effect. Even then it sometimes still bothers me and I'll take a Pepcid or Prevacid. If I can't force myself to stay awake that long I use and extra pillow and sleep on my left side. If you lay on your left your "esophageal flap" (I don't know the medical term) stays sealed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
