I am on day 8 of my pre op diet and was instructed to consume protein/ Meal Replacement shakes for all meals except for 4 meals in the 2 weeks and I could have a lean Protein and non starchy vegetable. Well shakes only all day hasn't worked and Ive grilled a small chicken breast every night for dinner... but I am starving! I am keeping busy and chewing gum and drinking the crap out of some Water but nothing works. Just needed to vent I guess... Still contemplating having surgery but am 85% sure I'll go through with it. I have been over weight my entire life; why do I think I don't need the surgery now?! Wow so many emotions!

I just started mine today, maybe an email to your nutritionist explaining how you are feeling and she can give you some added options to make the time go easier. You can do it!

Last week I had 4 Optifast shakes and 4 oz of lean Protein each day. This week it's just 5 Optifast shakes each day. Yuck! Hungry all the time just like you but I'm sticking with it.

How about adding some fish for lunch? Hang in there, it will be worth it!!

Fish? Shrimp?

chicken breast tends to very dry so maybe cooking it so it can absorb some other flavors and make it more moist may help. I don't eat red meat (not health related or animal activist, I just don't like it) so I am a white meat connoisseur when it comes to finding different ways to cook/create it.

Crockpot chicken recipes tend to be amazing just because you can get very tender/moist meats.

I hope you find something that helps and "hits the spot." :)

I'm on day 2 of Pre-OP diet, and not sure if it's my head or my stomach that's hungry. Only 6 more days of this, then surgery time. I CAN DO IT!!!!! :)

Don't let these 8 days you've put in be for nothing. You've come this far, don't turn back now!! The hunger is temporary. I admit the 2 week pre-op diet (mine allowed no food I had to chew!!) was the hardest thing I think I've done in my life. It's been almost a year since that business and I don't regret a single second of it. Look to the future. I promise you it will all be worth it!! Nothing comes to us for free, we all have to work a little bit and this is that time for you. Good luck, you can do it!!!

You can do this. Two weeks is a very short time in the course of your life. I'm not saying it isn't hard for you, just that looking beyond the few days you have left might help you get through it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
