Over Sew Or Fibrin Glue?

Recommended Posts

I am still researching my surgery options. I am confidant that the sleeve is right for me. At this point I am looking into surgeons and their techniques. I am self pay. I am considering dr. Alvarez in Mexico. He oversews the staple line. I just watched a video of a surgery dr.hoehn in Kansas City performed. Dr. Hoehn used fibrin glue over the staple line.

Another difference between the two is dr.hoehn leaves a drain in for a day and I don't think Dr. Alvarez does, does anyone know the advantages/disadvantages of each technique?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

My Dr. in Memphis, TN did not leave a drain in. I did get a hematoma behind one of my incisions. If I had a drain that would not have happen. It was painful but not unbearable.

When dealing with such technical questions, I suspect that the more important factor is the overall success and complication rates of the surgeon than the specific technique or products that he may use. There is usually so much overlap in outcomes that one is probably better off with a more skilled and experienced surgeon using a technically inferior technique than a less skilled surgeon using the latest and possibly superior techniques or product. There is usually enough debate and controversy about such details amongst the experts who do these things every day that it makes evaluation by us laymen very difficult.

No drain for me, self pay in Texas and my doctor cauterizes when he does the cut... no bleed, no leak.. I have done the legwork and haven't found one person that had a problem after their surgery with him..
