Help me!!!

Ok so it does not matter what I eat, I feel like I am going to throw up. I just started my soft diet on thursday of last week. So I can tolerate 1 teaspoon of chicken salad (pureed) OR 1/2 a string cheese and that is it. How the heck can I get my Protein and calories in. I am pretty much throwing up after every meal. I try to go slow but it does not seem right I can eat so little. I AM hungry! I just can not seem to get it right. I hear about all this stuff you all are eating and I am like NO WAY! Honestly, this can be torture sometimes. I feel like I am gonna get a leak because it feels so tight in there. If I eat 2 teaspoons I am in TROUBLE. Should I go back to liquids? ?

I would totally go back on liquids! Why be miserable!? I would touch base with your Doc too. I feel your pain but have managed to fight to keep stuff down. Hang in there- you are not alone. And it WILL get easier! Promise.

How many weeks out are you ? I'm four weeks out and I can't get much down, but the little I do eat fills me up pretty fast and I'm content. I noticed that if I stop eating at the first sign of fullness I don't feel overstuffed and want to throw up. If it's nausea try licking a little salt . I have made up in my mind that I will never eat how I used to eat. Take it easy and slow, slow, slow. I hope this helps and you feel better.

When I first started eating, I had to take tiny, think less than a baby food spoon bites and chew for 30 seconds. Then I waited another 30 seconds and took another bite.

At Kaiser Fremont, the guideline is to go back to the previous step if something bothers you, let your tummy settle, then try again. So I think going back to liquids, lettting your tummy settle and then trying again. I got most of my Protein from liquids (Protein powder, soy milk, and thinned greek yogurt) the first two weeks, but following that, when I was cleared for soft foods, I could eat about an ounce of soft Protein, such as really moist chicken or lunchmeat. It took about 1/2 hour to eat it. Somedays I had more problems than others. And I had more success with soft foods later in the day, not at Breakfast.

Also, are you on an acid reducer? If not, it might help. Your Dr. can prescribe one for you.

Thank you for all of your input. I am thinking it is just a learning curve and I need to redo the way I eat. Thanks!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
