Slow Down Some

Recommended Posts

Ok I started my journey at 441lbs as of March 26,2012, now I'm 270 almost 7 months. I'm a little worried that my weightloss won't slow down or stop. I'm addicted to the gym and not a fan of eating. I'm consuming 600 calories a day. I tried to eat more, but its just not possible. I do take in Protein Shakes daily and I'm not saggy I'm toning up due to intense weight training. How do I slow my weight loss down some.

OMG! your weight loss is freaking' fantastic 171lbs lost in 7mths that is incredible. I understand you are concerned have you spoken to your nutritionist or doctor; you should really try to get in more calories to help slow down the weight loss. It is great you go to the gym all the time and do not have a problem with sagging skin. How much time do you spend in the gym? Do you weight training or resistance bands or both?

Congrats again on your success!

Tmoss, first of all, congratulations on your amazing success and major lifestyle change!

You won't like it, but really the only way for you to slow down your loss is the mathematical way.........eat more or exercise less (or both!).

Essentially, it's all about CALORIES IN vs CALORIES OUT. If you are exercising a lot (seems like it, by what you've written), and especially if you're doing resistance training (lifting weights), you're probably building lots of muscle (which burns lots of calories, even at rest). In addition, any cardio work you're doing is also burning calories fast (during your workout).

If you're not eating much (especially protein), your weight loss will be very fast and possibly not as healthy as you would like.

You need to feed the machine!

You don't expect a car to run without gas, and your body won't run well without fuel either. Metabolism of fat (while it is the goal of any weight loss plan) is not a complete nutrition plan. You must ensure you are inputting proper amounts of Vitamins, minerals, Protein from meat and plan sources, Fiber and fluids. This can only be done by eating!

You will see from many people who post here that they also exercise hard and often, but most of them "eat their exercise calories". That is, if they've worked out for 600 calories in a day, they eat an additional 600 calories that day (on top of their normal daily caloric intake).

This helps prevent catabolism of muscle, leaching of essential minerals from bones and fatigue.

I'm sure there are a number of members on this board who would be happy to give you some advice on how to adjust your workouts and food intake to achieve a better balance. I would most strongly suggest you also speak with your surgeon and/or nutritionist for more precise and informed medical advice on how to proceed.

Good luck and let us know how things are going!

We are all very excited for you.....and envious as well. Wow, 171 lbs in 7 months......700 calories right now doesn't seem like quite enough for you since you also work out. Keep trying to get some of those Protein in. :)

I take Vitamins daily and weight train with free weights and resistant bands with 45 minutes of cardio. I played College football and a little pro ball and I have got back on that type of training program. Thanks for the compliments and info on how to slow my weight loss down

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
