Feeling Blue Today...

Recommended Posts

I'm 1week post-op today (10/15/12) and I'm so blue and funky today. I'm feeling sad and teary, and just generally "off".

It's been a chore to get enough Water down, but I'm doing it for the most part. And I'm on full fluids, do I'm having Soup and yogurt, too.

I'm hoping its just the after effects of the surgery and the drugs and the loss of my (unhealthy) way if life.

Any advice?

This is a huge period of adjustment. You will have your down days and your up days, you are doing the right thing, focusing on your fluids and hopefully your Protein and Vitamins. If you can, go outside and take a walk to do some reflective work. Time passes quickly, and as each day goes by, you will start to feel stronger and hopefully get through the mourning of the old days of overeating or just being able to eat what you want. It takes time to accept the new way of eating...and finding other things to make sense of this new lifestyle.

Good luck!!

It's just the hormones! It will pass, just remind yourself of how amazing it will feel when you hit your first goal! I had a few days in the beginning like that! Plus it's a Monday, aren't they always gloomy? lol

I went through some blah and down days too. After effect of surgery, hormones being released from your fat as you loose weight and maybe even some grieving over the loss of food and heck even having to do surgery to lose weight might all be reasons we feel this way! As long as you don't get really depressed, I think it is a normal phase. I started feeling more like myself around 2-3 months out.

We've all been though the blah's...... It will pass, hang in there and take a walk if possible. Watch some TV and keep yourself as busy as possible. Before you know it, you will be having to buy new cloths to go on that beautiful body of yours that will be much healthier too. :P

Just keep telling yourself that this is just temporary! Before you know it, you will be eating more substantial food, having more energy AND the scale will be moving and your clothes will be feeling looser!

Watch a funny movie, go on a walk, call a friend. It does get better!

I think it's to be expected. Spoil yourself a little:

  • I like lotion and lipgloss to lift my mood. Taking a shower, putting on perfume, clean clothes - they help me feel better.
  • Go outside if the weather is nice and get some sun or at least some fresh air. I love to sit in my backyard and walk through my neighborhood. At one week, you won't walk far, but just getting out is the point.
  • Think about how different life will be a year from now- next fall you will be much thinner and healthier and your strength will be back. What will you do? I walk more now and I love it. I have cute fall jackets and I'm considering buying a pair of knee high boots to wear over my skinny jeans. I can enjoy fall hikes without feeling like I'm going to drop with a heart attack. I can ride my bike for miles without tiring.
  • Make an appointment to get your nails done or go to the movies with a friend. If you don't feel up to it yet, make the appt. for a few weeks out. Just seeing fun things on my calendar cheers me up.
  • Buy a new book or rent a movie.
  • Do something nice for someone else. Even a phone call to someone who could use a kind word. For me, doing for others is often the best mood enhancer.
  • Think about what you have to be grateful for. Anything counts. For one thing, lots of people want to have the operation we have but can't afford it or can't have it due to some medical reason.

After you do fun things, be sure to schedule a nap! I was pooped the first four months after surgery. Nap time was my favorite time of day.

Best wishes on your journey,

Lynda

I remember feeling the same way and wondering what the hell did I do to myself. Its definitely an adjustment leaving behind that lifestyle that was all about food. I remember realizing 2 weeks post op, that in my old life everything revolved around food and now what was I to do. Good thing is as the weeks go on things get easier and you lose weight and you learn to live a normal life and fit new things in where food use to be :-)

I had the blues periodically after the operation. It was like a break-up for me: sitting by the phone waiting for double cheeseburger to call and knowing that I couldn't answer if it did.

I am two weeks post-op and know exactly how you feel. I had never felt anything close to depression before and almost went to the doctor about it. I was almost to the point of being "emoitioanlly overwhelmed". I am feeling much better this week and have been checking in at work and will return next week. The thing that helped me when I felt blue was walking and listening to music while walking. I do know that after this experience that next time somebody tells me they are blue or depressed I will know exactly how they feel. It does get much better, hang in there!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
