Bad Multivitamin!

Recommended Posts

The last few days I have been dreading my Multivitamin for some reason, they just kept feeling ickier and ickier. Today I chewed them up, swallowed, and immediately felt like I was going to vomit. I was in the middle of a conference call or I would have. Has anyone else lost their tolerance for the chewable vitamins? What happens now?

I did too. I started taking my multi vit in pill form after week 2. The gummies were gross. I havent had any issues eating so I didnt think it would be an issue and I was already taking pill form of b complex!

I started out with liquid multi Vitamin because my NUT said the chewable ones are not good enough Vitamins. So, that was all fine, but I decided to save money and switch to pill form MV about 2 months out. I hated it. One day I realized that life is too short to spend it dreading taking that dang pill everyday. It was huge, it made me feel icky and I swear i could "taste" it for a long time. I have switched back to the liquid vitamin and no longer dread that horrible MV.

What kind of chewable multivitamin are you taking? I hate the Multivitamins made for Bariatric patients...however my nut recommended Flintstones Complete (not the Gummy ones) 2 chewable tablets 1 x per day. I have no nutrient deficiencies and I have been tested for about 20 different Vitamin and mineral levels. If you haven't tried those, try them. That was a huge difference for me.

My Nut advised that I use Flintstones chewables as well. They don't like the gummies because they don't contain Iron, so of course I checked and couldn't find a Gummy that had it. Anyway, hopefully that will help. :)

I just take them in pill form, but I have to drink with milk or I get an upset stomach even to this day (almost 2 years post op).

The Bariatric Advantage chewables. I'm three weeks out and that's the closest I've gotten to vomiting.

I did vomit those Vitamins. When I switched I didn't have problems with nausea anymore. Try the Flintstones complete 2/day and see if its better. The great hint is they 1) Taste way better, 2) are cheaper, 3) less volume to take, &. 4) contain all the nutrient and Vitamins you need if you take 2 per day.

Thanks Pip! I've been waiting three days for a response from my surgeon's office. Will try the Flinstones.

I prefer to take a bariatric Vitamin because they're generally formulated with the most absorbable form of all the ingredients. That being said, any multivitamin is probably better than not taking one at all!

I had a lot of trouble with the Bariatric Advantage chewable Multivitamins - absolutely had to take them with meals, even 10 minutes prior to a meal and I'd end up with nausea. I find the Celebrate brand to taste much better and it's MUCH easier on my stomach. BA does awesome Iron (chocolate raspberry chew!) and Calcium chewy bites, but there's something in their multi that just didn't agree with me.

I take the Bariatric Fusion ones and love them. They are chewable. I am going to check out the Flintstones and see if they have the same percentages and maybe I will try them. :)

I have been using Bariatric Advantage chewable vitamins for over 10 months. i also take their Vitamin D gels and their chewable Iron. At first I tried the berry flavor (cuz my docotr office sold those) and hated it so bad, I don't know how I got through 180 of them. But I went there (they are close to me) and tried the different flavors, and now I use the vanilla ones. I love them. So I take all of these mentioned plus B12 sublingual everyday and have no rpoblems or issues with taste. have you tried the Bariatric Advantage or did you have a different brand? They also have a website or can order by phone and they are great to work with.

BA also has a multivitamin capsule. That's my plan because I CANNOT stand chewables. I think they also have multivitamin crystals you mix with Water...I know they have Calcium like that.

Their Iron was super sour, my mom loves sweet tarts and she loves it though.

The Vitamin D gels!! They taste like sunshine. I freakin' love em'!

I'm pre op and have trouble with Vitamins and nausea I always have to take them with food, or with my zofran.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
