I am getting spasms in my calves and someone recommended drinking gatorade or Powerade for the electrolytes. Today I'm going to start drinking gatorade to help alleviate them.

I used to get charley horses almost every night when I was dancing competitively. This sounds crazy but it worked. (I couldn't have bananas either as I'm allergic to latex.) I put a bar of soap under my bottom sheet at the foot of my bed. For some reason, the first night I put it there, no cramps. It worked like a charm. Try it! It's just a bar of soap ;). Hope you feel better! Charley horses are evil! I used to wake up crying, tangled in the blanket, begging somebody to help me ou of bed so I could walk it out.

What type of soap/brand did you use?

Anything! From little hotel bars, dove, generic it didn't matter. I just made sure I liked the smell :)

Drinking pickle juice is a known preventative of cramps.

When I first started exercising hard after surgery I was getting them every night. I was taking potassium but it didn't help. I upped my Water and they stopped. It also helps as the muscles get in better condition. Muscle fatigue is one contributing factor to cramps that many people don't pay enough attention to.

My arm swelled and was really bruised and sore. The same in my leg it swelled up and bruised knot and it was hot the clots stink but, it happens sometimes. I will try pickle juice and the extra liquid. I'm always dehydrated so that is probably a major factor

You can eat bananas. They've always been on my list from the nutritionist and surgeon. There is a particular reason why some may not be able to have certain food, but bananas aren't off limits.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
