I'm not banded yet. I have many banded friends and associates. One bandster is on many conference calls with me at the office - everyone knows she's on the line because we can hear her throat girgling. I always have to remind her to mute her line.

Do other bandsters have this problem? What causes it? This lady is obviously not disturbed by the fact that she girgles, but if I have that problem post banding I would not like it. Is this condition preventable?

I think the only time I have had anything similar to the gurgling noise you describe, is when I have taken a drink too soon after eating, and it has made me feel too full, kind of like my food floats up to far. But it is not a common occurance, I don't gurgle like that anyway!!! I am interested to see what responses you get!

I'm a gurgler. Imagine a Poland spring water bottle and what happens when you tap the spout for a drink- the Water goes down, bubbles come up. I guess that is what goes on with my pouch/stoma.

I was getting my teeth cleaned yesterday and had to keep apologizing to the dentist because I was making all sorts of noises from my throat !!!

Yes, some days I gurgle like mad, then I won't for weeks. I can't control it or know when it is going to happen. It may happen in a meeting, during a discussion, etc. Its a small price to pay for being 'normal' weight.

Thats an interesting question and now that I think about it I do gurgle and burp more than I did pre-op. But I didn't think other people heard me. If I keep my mouth shut it is relatively quiet. And the burping just sounds like louder gurgles. They arent discusting man burps.

Only the first year or so after being banded. It happened soon after I ate. My students used to laugh at me.

I'm a Banded Gurgler.:phanvan

The noises, gurgles and other oddiites that come out of my esophagus amaze me.

When you are around a lot of longer-term Bandsters or those with much higher restriction levels, they will tell you that you might hear some gurgling. My worse fear is that I'm often around microphones and they pick it up.

I also get hiccups if I eat a bit too fast, so I try to never 'rush' eating if I'm going to be around folks or audio equipment.:guess

I don't like it (I almost never burped or hiccup'ed before banding) but I value being 'normal weight' much more. :clap2:

I gurgle when I'm filled too much or if I'm having a PBing episode, caused from being over filled. There is no controling it.

I'm a gurgler too! I seem to notice it when I take a drink too soon after eating. Finally, after 3 fills, I have restriction...so I don't mind the sounds.

Just wanted to welcome you to the forum, and say congrats on becoming a bandster! You will find this a wonderful way to meet others who have, or may be currently experiencing the sam ethings you are. Feel free to ask questions, but remember that everyone is different.

As far as fills.....the surgery was a piece of cake, the FILLS RULE!!! Take charge of your health and I highly recommend floroscopy during the fill procedure. Once the doctor locates your port....they inject a saline solution into the band. The amount depends on the degree of restriction that you experience, as seen on the floroscopy. Do you have a 10cc band or a 4cc band? It is a good idea to keep a log book of how much fill you get each time. I had my 3rd fill before I felt restriction...about time was my sigh of relief. lol Good luck on your journey and keep us posted on your results......:clap2: Dreamer

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
