Has anyone post-surgery had pain develop in both knees? I am trying to decide if it is because I'm using my legs more (to get up, to sit down, etc) or if it's because I've lost so much muscle in a short amount of time. I'm 3 weeks postop and I've lost 35lbs since I started my preop diet on Sept 18. I'm getting in 56-80oz of fluids/day and most days i get my 60gms Protein in. I'm 48 and feeling 90!

Well that could be one of two things.. either you are not moving as much as you normally did and they are getting stiff OR you are moving more than ever and they are adjusting...

It's hard to tell, this did not happen to me and quite the opposite did, as I dropped weight moving became easier and my knees bothered me less.

See the doc, they should be able to help diagnose you and you want to make sure that it's not something coincidental to the WLS.

My knees hurt for awhile post-op, probably from a combination of moving more and from the ligaments/muscles not being stretched so tightly since I was losing weight rapidly. I also lost my sense of balance completely and ran into walls a lot for about 6 months. It's worth it, though! :)

Thank you for the replies. I have been having issues with continued abdominal pain and now my knees hurt too. It is frustrating. I hope the coming weeks see these aches and pains resolve!

My right knee been bothering me lately so I went and bought a knee brace. It's getting better though. Funny that I have been out for 14 months and now my knee is acting out!

I am 29 and was sleeved on sept tenth. I was having terrible knee pain. It was really deep down in my knees. I was also experiencing mild joint pain elsewhere. Went in and talked with my doctor and after some blood work determined my Vitamin D levels were very very low. They put me on a prescription vit D and I take one pill per week. The pain stopped almost immediately. Just thought I'd let you know;). Good luck!

It might be a good idea to call your doctor. This doesn't sound right to me. It wouldn't hurt. At 3 weeks out, I had no abdominal pain except in my left incision site periodically. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
