How Much Can You Eat One Year Out?

Recommended Posts

I am getting sleeved on Wednesday - my biggest question is after I hit goal will I be able to eat in normal social situations, I do not want to eat like I always have - but would like to be able to split an entree with my wife at a restaurant. What can you guys eat after 1 year?

Hi,I can almost do that now at 7 months out. They say we will still get to a point where we are going to wish we could eat less..lol

Dont worry, the eating really is fine if you just learn to really taste and treasure what you can eat.

I am 6 months post sleeve. When my husband & I go out, we order one appetizer & one entree. When the appetizer comes, I take a little & he eats the rest. I keep the plate & when his dinner comes, I take a little & put it on my plate.

I just had Breakfast, 1/2 english muffin with strawberry jam & Peanut Butter. For snack I'll have a Protein Bar, lunch Soup, afternoon snack mozzarella stick, Protein Shake or bar, chicken & green Beans for dinner, then a snack at night. It gets better, in the beginning I thought I would never eat a meal again, so I know just where you are!

I'm a year out. Last night for dinner I had about 3 oz of salmon and a little bit of watermelon. I regularly go out to eat. I'll sometimes go with just an appetizer but just as often I'll order an entree and if I like it, I'll take the uneaten portion home. Rarely the veg or starch, usually just the Protein. My restriction is in full force at this time and I can never exceed about 4 oz of protein. I might have a few bites of the food that surrounds the protein on the plate though. My capacity is pretty close to one Quest protein bar if that helps you visualize it. Don't worry, this becomes very normal for you very quickly - or at least it did for me.

I am 14 months out and feel very normal. a typical meal out ( I just went to red lobster Friday for example) eating slow-- half of the salad, half of a cheddar bay biscuit, 6 crab legs, a bite or two of lobster, and a couple bites of potato. Perfect!

an easier example- a 6 inch subway sandwich without the top bread and a half of a banana for lunch.

Terry,

You are doing fantastic in just 1 year. Can you give everyone any tips?

Hey Mokee,

Really I just track everything I eat and try to keep to Protein first. I've been getting between 700 and 900 calories a day of late but I kept below 700 for most of the time since surgery. I do deep Water aerobics a couple of times a week and walk quite a bit. Nothing too fancy eh? Its all about the diligence and patience. The hardest thing is not to let the stalls get to you and stay on target. It is doable though and I have to say it is a great thing to have this opportunity to regain my health.

Thanks for asking. Happy to answer any other questions you might have.

I'm getting close to 1 year and easily eating more now than I was 4 or even 6 months after surgery. Ex: I can eat a full boneless grilled chicken breast, a couple of ounces of green Beans or broc and a few bites of a fruit. But it is still a good bit less than before surgery.

I'll give you all the fast foods I can eat at 3 years out. I don't really eat fast foods a lot, but if I want to, these are things I can eat.

almost a whole Junior whopper with cheese. I throw some of the bread away

almost 2 pieces of pizza, more if it's really crispy thin

1 soft taco at taco bell or one crunchy one

1 snack size bbq chicken from KFC

1/2 sanwich

It sounds like you can have your cake and eat it too, (being small AND eat Fast Food!) Obviously it's not something to make a habit of (again!) but if you're careful it can be done on occasion.

I'm 9 months out and i feel sometimes i may be eating to much but I'm still losing weight. That's the funny thing is that even though you're not eating that much at all compared to before surgery you pay more attention to what your eating.I like Chilis,i order the 6 ounce steak with broccoli and eat about half the steak and a couple bites of the broccoli but i also eat the chips and queso. Not much chips though.

I also feel that I'm eating more. But my diet has changed a lot! I used to love Chinese food, especially General's chicken. Not now. I can't eat stuff that is batter dipped or breaded. I have stalled loosing every week, but I go down about 1 or 2 lbs every few weeks.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
