Hello All,

It seems that everyone is pretty happy with there band and everything seems to have gone well.I am glad to here that people are able to keep it a secret. I am not sure who I would tell if anyone. I live in northern Ontario and would have to fly in for fills: but I LOVE Toronto, and any chance I get to go, I am there. How long is the wait for the surgery after you make your first appointment ?

I looked at the scar pictures, I thought it would be much bigger. I bet in time it would not even be noticable at all.

Hearing all of you has given me the strength to go through with this.

Yasmina :clap2:

It took me about 4 months from the initial meeting. Depends on your insurance ( I paid cash for mine). Mostly depends on how quick you can make your appointments for all the pre-op tests that have to be done.

I was banded on Oct 3rd and am loving life right now. I am already down over 30lbs!!

Best of luck

I made an appointment to see the doctor a week before for the initial consult. During that meeting, he pulled out his blackberry and showed me which dates he had available for surgery. I could have gone 5 weeks from then, but chose a later date to fit my schedule.

At TLBC they usually schedule your first fill appt. the day of the actual surgery....the first fill is normally 6 weeks after surgery.

You're asking how long the wait is for surgery, aren't you? For me, with Dr. Cobourn, it was exactly 8 weeks from my phone 'consultation'.

I'm sure someone else who went with TLBC (Joffe/Yau) will correct me if this is wrong, but I think it's about the same with them... 6-8 weeks.

wow, that is pretty fast. I have not made my apt as of yet , so I am not sure who to go with. I would like to be done early Jan. I never thought they would do a phone consult. I will have to fly in to Toronto, If I could do a phon consult that would be great !

Thanks for the info

Yes, most of them do the phone consults.

Oh....wait for surgery!! Sorry....why I thought you were asking about how long between surgery and first fill is beyond me!! LOL.

It varies....could be anywhere from 6-8 weeks as Mandi said or longer....it will vary I'm sure and is bound to increase as it becomes more and more popular.

That is one of the queries you can ask during your consult.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
