Waking Up To Weakness!

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Oct 3rd, little over 2 weeks post op. I am back to work 3 days a week, and pretty active in my life.

I feel fine for the most part during the day. But when I wake up in the morning I am so weak, I feel like every bit of energy is

sucked out of my body. Its sorta scary how it feels, sometimes it makes me cry because I dont like this feeling.

So I drink a Protein Shake and drink Water which takes me close to 30 mins to complete and I feel better.

My question is there anything I can do to prevent this feeling first thing in the morning and does anyone else have this problem.

This surgery is major surgery...you cannot expect to be fully recovered in 2 weeks or 6 for that matter.....You are most likely over doing it and so it drains whatever energy you have left over....which isn't much to begin with...

You have to remember that this is a life change not a change in 2 weeks......there is no going from 0 to 60 here.......if you are weak your body is talking to you...feeding it is a great idea.......be patient and care for yourself.......2 weeks is not long enough for your body to heal at all.......

Pace yourself kid this is a life long marathon...... ;)

Thank you I do feel sometimes like I am completely healed, I have to take a step back and relax.

Are you getting in a snack - some Protein before you sleep? Depending on how long you sleep, you're depriving your body of that food for 8 hours (just an example).

In other words, if you are eating every 2-3 hours, you're not doing that while you sleep so eating before bed may help that, just not too much to make you uncomfortable.

Hope you find something to help you with this. :)

Hope u feel better soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
