Iggy let me ask you why you had the sleeve done?

If I remember right it was to lose weight...the same reason most have it. :)

Death and complications. Also that I will lose this weight and still have all the pain that I have now. As I get closer to my surgery date, I get more nervous and second guess my decision. I don't want to leave my kids without their Mommy. But then, I also don't want to leave them with a Mommy that can't play with them and falls asleep every time she gets home from work. Sigh. I gotta do it and hope for the best, and pray I don't die.

I feel the exact same way. A gamble either way and completely scary. But, statistically, the benefits outweigh the risks by a landslide.

Leaks and blood clots.

Any complication that would prevent me from attending my final examination (student) about 3weeks after surgery. I am two classes away from graduating so missing this exam is not an option.

I remained a college student thru pregnancy an labor and delivery. I maintained my honors GPA. I hope i can do it through surgery.

Living a long unhealthy life and being miserable the whole time.

Having my kids remember me as the fat guy that sat on the couch all the time.

Passing my unhealthy habits onto my children.

My fear (once I finally get through the pre-op hoops...IF?!?) is that...

1) I won't wake up

2) I will be a miserable wench during recovery

3) it won't work

4) the sisters will be tube socks filled w/rocks & they won't be able to lift them--instead of just shrinking to nothing (my sister is dealing w/this now--said they'd have to remove her nipples bc there is no volume to work with anymore... & a lift would kill the tissue. WHAT?!?! I have never heard/read/thought abt that being a possibility)

I was amazed when I realized that I was more afraid of who/what to tell coworkers (I'm a nurse) and friends, than of the surgery itself! I wasn't comfortable with half-truths and people finding out later, so I just told them I was taking time off and why.

Now it's worring about complications...

As of now, my biggest fear is approval. Then if I get approved it will be complications. Then if I'm complications free it will be hair loss. And then it will be my saggy skin.

You're going to have a rough, stressful go... good luck!

I'm not sure it qualifies as a "fear," but I am concerned about loose, flappy, slappy, excess skin. :P

I'm not a big "skin-care" kind of guy, but I suspect I will be once I have the surgery. "Preparation H" anyone?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
