Anyone Else Sick Of Leaning?

Recommended Posts

As of today, I have lost 58 pounds with 42 more to go.I knew when I was fat that I often subconsciously leaned on things to support me as I maneuvered through the day. It wasn't until recently that I realized the extent of this habit. This morning as I was showering, leaning on to the wall of the shower, I told myself to straighten up and stand firmly on my 2 feet. I'm hoping to eradicate this habit from my repertoire ! Anyone else?

Actually through what research I've done - shows on t.v. and ppl I've spoken to, it's rather common.

Do you ever catch "my 600 lb. life" on t.v.? SEVERAL of the folks who were 600+ lbs have said the same thing on those shows! You adapt to the hand given to you, now it's unlearning and readapting.

I've also heard it in my WLS support group. You aren't alone. It's a life changer this surgery and sounds like you are starting to 'see' and recognize it. Congrats and best wishes on your journey!

xx

Stephanie

I am hoping that after I am sleeved I can stop leaning. I have a bad back (actually having surgery on that in Decemeber) but I am hoping that also with the weight loss I can stand for more than 5-10 mins without having to lean. :)

I noticed this too. I actually had a habit of staying off my feet as much as possible since they hurt so bad after just a few minutes on them. Of course the more you sit, the less calories you burn so it was self-defeating behavior. Now that I'm dropping the weight, I find I can stand for a MUCH longer period of time before my feet start to bother me. I'm trying to train myself to stand and walk around in everyday circumstances where I used to sit.

after my shower i have a plastic chair i would sit in front of the full length mirror to blow dry my hair, use curling Iron, i couldn't/wouldn't try and stand up doing this. i was uncomfortable.

92 lbs down, chair is now put away, and i stand in front of the medicine cabinet and do my hair, luv it. big accomplishment for me NSV?

when DH and i went to grocery store, i would sit and wait in the car. various "leg/knee" reasons it was just easier. :(

now, i go into the store while my DH closes his eyes in the car ;)NSV

not only am i walking better, i have built up my confidence that it doesn't bother me walking through the store amongst many others NSV :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
