PetraLuxor 83 Posted October 20, 2012 Trying to decide on what Vitamins & supplements to go with post surgery. I have read posts on the nutrition section of this forum but I still find myself wondering what Mexico sleevers have been going with. Curious about brand and type (powder, Gummy, chewable, etc.) Thinking of ordering some specific bariatric kind but not sure. Currently, I take One & Only for women which I buy from a Vitamin health food store but the pill is rather large so I'm thinking that won't work directly after surgery. I also take Biotin, alpha lipoid acid and selenium.
mcwestfam 123 Posted October 20, 2012 I am taking Centrum chewable and sublingual B12. I'll probably add Biotin at some point.
Geminidrive 389 Posted October 20, 2012 Are you asking about brand or specific Vitamins advised by our surgeon? What have your surgeon and Nutritionist advised?
Need-a-Sleeve 211 Posted October 20, 2012 I take Alive, liquid vitamins--nasty taste but with one 30 cc shot it is done. I also take Biotin 5,000 twice a day & have since 3rd week post-op.
chad2rad 491 Posted October 20, 2012 Flintstone chewable with Iron and Calcium gummies. Still taking B12 shots but will need to start pills when done. Had to add Fiber this week for regularity.
julielle 199 Posted October 20, 2012 I ordered the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury ones and their calcium chews but I think I'll switch to Centrum when I'm done. Plus I think the Unjury ones don't have enough Calcium, the guidelines I'm going by are: The multi must contain 100 of the RDA. At least 18mg of Iron Not too much calcium in the multi or it inhibites absorption of the Iron calcium citrate, 1500-2000mg a day taken separate from iron/multi, in 3-4 doses. (not more than 500-600mg at a time) Take with Vitamin D (D3) to increase absorption
enigmachik 403 Posted October 20, 2012 I ordered the unjury ones and their calcium chews but I think I'll switch to Centrum when I'm done. I don't recommend you switch to Centrum. They have an amazing marketing department so many people think they are great Vitamins, but the truth is all the studies on Vitamin absorption have shown that Centrum Vitamins are among the very worst for absorption. They essentially go out the same way they went in - the body receives little to no benefit from them.
Getting There 198 Posted October 20, 2012 I'm taking a chewable multi (Centrum). It tastes better than the bariatric ones I've tried, is less expensive, can buy at local pharmacy - and the nutrients are about the same as the bariatric ones. calcium citrate (Citrate is recommended over other forms due to the way it is absorbed). I like Calcet & Bariatric Advantage chewables.< /p> D3 - I'm taking 2500 IU's daily in a softgel B12 - 500-1000 mg sublingual is recommended most commonly. Biotin - optional but supposed to help with hair loss/regrowth. Fish Oils - optional but recommended. I'm taking one that is strawberry flavored softgel. Used to study about Vitamin bio availability to the body. Centrum was at the bottom. May be the chewables are different.
julielle 199 Posted October 20, 2012 Good to know. The Unjury ones I ordered all have a ton of the RDA, they're optimized for gastric bypass so they have even more than we need, and it's all the good kinds. It's just that their calcium chews is lacking a bit since it would only give me 1250 and the recommendation is 1500-2000. I suppose I could also just eat an extra chew, but they're pretty expensive Vitamins, it's about 20$ a month for the Calcium alone.
onceagain2 20 Posted October 22, 2012 Previous Surgeons have said to use Vitamin C for pre and post op...........it improves healing/recovery. Also take the 1000 MG Vitamin C Energizer packs 3 times a day.............it helps my Asthma What do you think my odds of getting my Doc to give me Vitamin C drip in my IV? Here is what Dr Weil says: ' I do still highly recommend Vitamin C before, during and after surgery, but you may find that it's pretty hard to persuade your son's physicians to do what I suggest. The body uses a lot of vitamin C to make connective tissue and high levels of the vitamin speed the healing of surgical wounds. For that reason, I recommend giving patients an IV drip of vitamin C during surgery. The drip should provide 20 grams of vitamin C in every 24-hour period, from the time a patient goes into surgery until the IV is removed. If you're persistent, you may be able to convince your son's doctors to go along with this plan, but I'm afraid you'll have an uphill battle. .
slatond 20 Posted October 22, 2012 I take the Celebrate (multi vit w/ Iron) Celebrate calcium citrate Celebrate B12 I like them ok.. Designed for WLS patients.
Susan 2.0 278 Posted October 23, 2012 Definitely go with Celebrate chewables. They taste as good when you're finished chewing as when you started. Can't say the same for opurity (Unjury's brand)
carpediem2012 7 Posted October 23, 2012 Isotonix powder is great too. I put it in Water in the morning. Tastes good.
