smhagood 5 Posted October 20, 2012 I ate a piece of ham last night and now I am in a panic about what the consequences may be. I just had my sleeve surgery on Monday and yesterday was Friday so it was day 5. I'm supposed to be only eating full liquids but I had a moment of weakness. Will this cause a leak??? I feel fine and it has been 17 hours since my slip up. Should I be concerned? Does anyone have any experience with this? I also need to find a way to avoid evening cravings. Threetimesacharm 1,400 Posted October 20, 2012 You will probably be fine but why risk it? You could have caused major harm to your stomach, it is just not ready yet to digest ham. Take it easy, slow down, you will be able to eat ham in no time, don't rush it. 1 lessofmeismore reacted to this
smhagood 5 Posted October 20, 2012 You are right. Thanks for the advice.
AStephenson 159 Posted October 23, 2012 Are you allowed to have sugar free popscicles?? You could have one or two of those as an evening snack, they are very low calorie! Please stick with your fluids, I know you really don't want to cause any damage to your new tummy!
ingridR 0 Posted November 1, 2012 I just accidentally ate a French fry, 8 days after my sleeve surgery. What should I be worried about. What symptoms should I be concerned about getting that would indicate that I did some damage?

Thanks....I found out the same thing. I was so worried all night long, I didn't sleep at all. I WON'T be doing THAT again! :-) It just really freaked me out because I had just been to see my Dr. that morning and he warned me (sternly) that a leak in my sleeve would be a SERIOUS complication that would make me septic and in the hospital attached to tubes for 6 months! delta_girl 931 Posted November 3, 2012 A few seconds for a small bite of food isn't worth the possible consequences.
TakeCareGirl 161 Posted November 3, 2012 When I have a craving for something I can't have (I'm in soft foods phase) I come on this board and look at the before and after photos. It is so inspiring and brings me back to why I am doing this. Hold on to your pureed phase, you can do pureed ham salad - one of my favorites from that phase. delta_girl 931 Posted November 3, 2012 I'm 6 weeks out, soon to be 7, and I still eat pureed baby food because my sleeve really likes it. It doesn't take very many times to learn that there are things that your sleeve does and does not like. There really isn't a positive payoff to keep eating things that your head wants but your sleeve doesn't. That bugger will teach you things that will surprise you.
