Choosing A Goal Weight

Recommended Posts

I am 5'6". Started at 255. My surgeon's goal was 155. My goal was 145. I'm currently 170. Now that I am getting a bit closer I fluctuate between 135-155 as the goal. I am having a hard time picturing it.

I know that 11 years ago I weighed 135 and I had to starve myself. I looked great but was pretty darn miserable. I would love to look like that - but not at the cost of virtual starvation.

My long term goal has everything to do with fitness, not just weight loss. I want to be able to participate in any activity I choose without a moments hesitation that I am not sufficiently fit.

I had initially set my goal weight to be 185, that was the last weight that I remember under 200 pounds. I've looked at my BMI and I should be around 150 or so for my height. After some strong thinking I've decided that my goal weight will be 160-170. I still would like to be curvy and I think that around this goal weight I can be healthy and curvy too. I may change my mind as the weight comes off so who knows.

Mine was set by the insurance. I am 5'5" and insurance said I should be 140, and that's how I was qualified. Although my surgeon agrees with the number. I started this at 253. 140 sounds like a dream number to me. Esp since I'm 51 yrs old and losing weight very slowly at an average of about a pound a week. But i keep telling myself that the turtle won the race.....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
