What Do You Use To Measure Your Foods?

Recommended Posts

Do you use a food scale? Measuring cups? I want to make sure I have what I need to measure my foods before surgery!

I have a digital food scale, it measures in ounces up to 5 pounds. You can put your container on it and zero out that weight then add what ever you want and it will weigh that inside the container..Super neat! I found mine at TJ max but I have seen them at Walmart also.

Yes I use both food scale and measuring cups.

Food scale: chicken, canned meats, tuna, fish

Measuring cups: cottage cheese, soft foods, veggies

Measuring spoons: you will also need a good set of these

Just measuring cups. A 1/4 cup for nuts or egg whites in the mourning, 1/2 for meats, and 1 cup for sauces like chili or Soup. Quick and simple.

I envy you guys that are doing the right thing and measuring. I confess that I have never measured except a visual estimate. My stomach helped me guage my portions REAL quick. Maybe it's a "man thing" or maybe I'm just stupid but it's like asking for directions for me.

Me too. I just bought smaller plates and bowls and really listen to my body when I am getting full.

I used the little 3 oz paper Dixie cups when in my soft stage. Three oz's was about my limit and helped to train myself on what 3 oz's looked like. It was easy to nuke in the microwave and then just toss when I was done.

I use plastic measuring cups for 1/3 cup or an accurate food scale for 3-4 ounces of Protein.

I use small dishes. I have several bowls that are only 4 ounces. I also have a food scale in order to keep a more accurate calorie count.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
