Confession: I Look For Success Photos To Reinforce My Decision

Recommended Posts

My confession is I look for photos to watch amazing progress to reinforce my decision to have surgery even though for my health I know its the best thing. Also, ladies & gentlemen, you all look fabulous. Thanks for the encouragement from your photos.

Well Buffy pics really motivated me after I had my surgery to, so here are two pics for you. The first one was on May 16 at my daughters college graduation, I was 334 lbs, and the second pic is almost 3 months post op and down 75 lbs (85 lost now, but I haven't made a new pic) I'm 4 months out now and this is the best decision I have ever made! I hope this helps! Good luck on your journey!

There have been a number of threads dedicated to the health vs. vanity thing and I think in most cases vanity plays a role whether we're willing to admit it to ourselves at the time of surgery or not.

I spent more than a year researching the surgery, reading success stories, searching out the why of the people that felt they failed and learning about complications. It's the only way to make a fully informed decision.

I think it's always helpful to see before and after photos of people that are similarly built so we can see what *could* happen post op.

Best of luck.

I would think a renewed outlook for a healthy lifestyle would outweigh vanity. I have two boys and I would love to be able to keep up with them. They are my world and when I get sick from obesity related things, they worry. I feel sorry for them because they shouldn't have to be so concerned for me.

I'm not saying health shouldn't be out main focus, but who wouldn't want to feel prettier/more handsome? There nothing wrong with a double-win.

I agree. I am doing this for my health but it sure is fun to think about being thin. I realize now that I had given up on that dream and had settled for just not gaining anymore. But now thinking it could happen for me and that is really reinforced when I see the before and after pictures and think wow could that really be my reality after the surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
