Hi All,i Am New And This My First Post.

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,I am new to this so please forgive me if I am long winded ,lol..

My name is Daniella and I am over weight by ALOT,its been

very hard to loose it and keep it off,I just lost 48 pounds over the winter

and I put it all back on ,plus some.

I have decide to get help,I can see that I just cant do it myself,I am a binge eater,

I have always kept it to myself,I get up after hubby goes to bed and eat,I and eat.

I have depression,I am also Bi-Polar 2,I cant fix my mental state but being over weight,

tired ,you can fix that..I dont sleep, I am up 2 to 3 days at a time, being over wight

has cause my health to go down hill.

I am now having problems with my knees from my weight,I am short also 4"11

,yes I am tall,lol (JK) .

SO I have decided to take my first step,I called my local bariactric hospital and set and appointment,

I am set to go in November 2 for a consultation and a video..

I am excited but kinda nervous .

I just wanna be healthy and learn to control my weight and ,I wanna like myself..

I wanna be able to look at me from the floor up not from the neck up.

I ask myself,is this me,what did I do to myself?

I wanna look at me and say YES this is me,I am now healthy

and this is what I should be.

I hope I am able to get the help i need to have a new look on life.

This is my start of my journey ,

I would love to know what kind of steps that are needed to be taken before the surgery is done, any special diets?

Thank you ahead of time.

Hi,

Welcome!!! This is a good place to get alot of good information from people that have been there. I am pre=surgery and had my psych evaluation and nutrition appointment today. i am still deciding what I want to do, surgery or not and then by-pass or sleeve. One thing I learned today was binging is contra indicated for the sleeve so you will want to get a handle on that before the surgery. What I thought of as binge eating was not what the counselor considered binging. Also on this forum 190 is far from alot and you have a pretty low BMI so you are starting this way before most of us, wish I would have done this years ago but better late than never.

I started out with a BMI of 49 and 334 lbs, now 4 months later my BMI is 38 and I'm down 85 lbs. this surgery saved my life, no doubt!

My BMI is 38.6, indicating my weight is in the Obesity range I am very short so I have some health issues that go along with it,I have high blood pressure and my cholesterol and now my knees are starting to give me problems.. i.I go from 190 to 220 ,I go back and forth..I just know that now is the time to get this done before it gets worse.I know 190 may not sound like alot but in a small body frame it is..I cant go back and forth with my weight any more so I have decide ,time to nip it in the bud,lol....I should weigh 115 and my height is 4 ft 11" yup,I am short..lol..Thank you and I am sure I will have alot more questions..I go nov.2nd for my first appointment.. so I am kinda nervous.. Thanks for the replies!

Hi, I am 5'2 and I know how every pound seems to show and how much it wears on your body. I yo-yoed up and down and finally decided I needed a weapon for my war on weight and that's how I came to VSG. Some could say that my 193 pre-op weight was not so high but I was depressed & miserable. My parents are both obese, my dad has diabetes (mom probably does too but hasn't been to a doc or dentist in at least 25 years. No exageration), and my grandfather had a series of strokes and later died from a heart attack. I could see my future and it wasn't pretty.

Ask lots of questions, do your research, and keep coming back! We are all here to support you. :)

Sweetiebell....what a great decision to face your health issues at a young age, it is easier to bounce back and heal the younger you are.

I am also 4'11" and I was huge at almost 280 last summer 2011. I am in the 180's now and on my way toward a healthy goal for me. You can do this. I had surgery 6 months ago and already feel so much better. My knees used to hurt but no more, my cholesterol is normal now and off my blood pressure meds and I am 57 years old. I wish I had done this sooner.

It is very doable, but you have to be ready to do the work, its not a magic potion. It helps you cut down on the amount you can eat but you still have to make the right choices and exercise.

Hopefully many of your concerns will be addressed at your initial appointment. I was in a mandatory 12 week pre-op program and was asked to lose 10% with their dietary recommenations which I did, lots of classes with a nutritionist and behavioral specialist. Glad I had time to learn so much of what to expect anf how to eat post-op.

Good luck, hope your appt goes well!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
