queenvaleen 4 Posted October 19, 2012 How awesome for you IMAbear! I have to say that the whole process has been unbelievably easy. My first visit with my surgeon, Dr. Michael Perez in Ft Lauderdale was on August 20th. Got the necessary paperwork (10 years of different doctors and weight tracking), letter of necessity from my PCP and sent it in. From the time the office sent it in was a 7 day turnaround for insurance approval. I am scheduled for surgery on November 20th, 2012 (Thanksgiving week - LOL). I am going to do bloodwork next week, and then on 11/2 I meet with nutritionist I guess to get my preop liquid diet. Then on 11/8 I do pre op and meet with the Dr. to go over stuff?? I am 33 days and counting. I have already started eating the baby bites and make myself wait an hour after eating before I drink Water. I bought one of those H2O on the go tubs/bottles so I can have my water. 74.4 ounces of water a day and man I do not stop peeing!! This is such a positive step for all of us who are doing this and I know it will improve our lives. I look forward to talking with you more about how you are feeling and all around attitude. It will be good to talk with someone who is only a couple of weeks ahead of me so we can feel each other's pain and joy.... Good Luck 1 Pookeyism reacted to this

bakawaka 59 Posted October 19, 2012 Today I also signed my paperwork. I went through my pre-op testing (chest x-ray, EKG, Barium x-ray of stomach and blood work). I am self-pay and also spent an extra $1800 purchasing a 90-day insurance policy to cover extra hospital stays in case of complications. Given that the hospital costs $3,000 per night, the $1800 seems like a decent deal. I'm up to around $20,000 with all of the expenses, though the quoted cost is around $18,000. I have no regrets. I can say that Barium is one of foulest things I have ever put into my mouth, though I got through the pre-op stomach exam. I do not look forward to the leak test simply because of the foul taste of Barium. My pre-op liquid diet starts in one week. 11/09 is the surgery date. 1 Pookeyism reacted to this
