NotsoSlimShady 19 Posted October 18, 2012 I had my surgery on the 8/28 and had lost about 70 pounds (including 32 preop) as of the first week of October. Then I thought I should start hitting the weights and cardio a bit more. I joined the YMCA 3 weeks ago and haven't lost a pound since. I go at least 4 or 5 days a week and usually do just weights 3 days a week. My question is this. Has anyone else started to stall as soon as they starting regularly working out? Is it just a normal stall or have I not lost anything because I'm putting muscle back on that I've lost along the way. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. IsB 209 Posted October 18, 2012 If you are doing strength training you need to look at more than just the scale. Start tracking your measurements. Muscle weighs more than fat so you could stay the same weight but still be shrinking. It sounds like you have a very good exercise plan. Don't let the scale make you second guess yourself. 3 ArcusX, gmanbat and Benjammin reacted to this
desertmom 297 Posted October 18, 2012 Yes,I did.Didnt realize it at first but I was also eating slightly more.I kept on increasing my activities to kick start the weight loss again. Then I revamped my eating plan, dropped some of the running and the weight's been coming off again. I didnt start exercising until 5 months out and went for it hard and fast. Now I play squash twice a week, pilates twice a week and gym once. But I know if I had been doing resistance training or weights I would not have been this flabby. Keep up with the exercise and I am sure after a time of re-adjustment,you will start losing again and you will not be quite as saggy as I am now.

Thanks Could it be the 3 week stall that coincidentally started around the time you started at the gym? I stalled for 2 weeks between the 3rd amd 4th weeks post-op. We're sleeve siblings, I was sleeved on the 28th too!

We're sleeve siblings, I was sleeved on the 28th too! Sure, I guess that might be it. That's what I'm trying to tell myself anyway...I'm just frustrated that as soon as I started busting my ass in gym, I stopped losing weight. I'm getting my strength back at least. Thanks for the comment 8-28!
aroundhky 1,174 Posted October 19, 2012 For most of us, it's all about body composition. Which means it's not so much the scale, but muscle over fat. When I'm hitting the weights hard, I stall like crazy or even put on a couple of pounds. But at the same time, my belt and waist feel looser, so I know that added weight is muscle...and I'm ok with that and I think most (especially men) prefer that as well. Hang in there and keep at it....you'll like the progress in your physique if you stick with it.
