Forgive My Ramblings, But I Just Need To Ramble

Recommended Posts

So here it is, I'm 15 months post op and just in the last month or so I have been able to eat much more than before. I never thought I would be able to have more than a few bites of dense Protein and yet now I can eat a whole fillet of talapia, almost a whole chicken breast and maybe 5 ounces of steak. Yet I can barely eat 2 bites of my favorite food in the world- hamburgers. I still have some days when I want to cry because I want to eat like I did before, admittedly they are few and far between and I would have surgery again in a heartbeat, but still wish I could get that whole hamburger, fries and coke in. Then again being able to wear a size 8/10 is amazing.

I'm shocked that maintainence is so easy. Also shocked that the weight loss has stopped and if I want to lose any more I know I will have to really work for it now. That first year the weight fell off so easily I guess I thought it would always be like that.

Well I guess I'm done rambling now. Thanks for listening. :)

No I haven't gained or lost in the last 6 or 7 months. I haven't been trying to lose, but before that I lost without trying.

Yeah, I am finding that it is alot more "work" to try to keep the weight coming off now too.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
