I realize how irritating this post may be to anyone who is struggling to lose, so forgive me in advance.

I had my surgery about 5 weeks ago - 9/11. I'm 5'9" and was 262 on surgery day. One month later, on 10/11, I weighed 232. So, 30 lbs. lost in the first month. I've lost 6 more lbs. since that, for a total of 36 lbs. in 5 weeks.

Is it possible to lose too quickly on this or is it "the more, the better?"

I am eating what is recommended in my packet from the surgeon - I have 3 meals per day, a meal being around 1/4 cup of Protein. I do get hungry sometimes in-between meals and at night before bed but it's not overwhelming.

Drinking plenty of Water and although I'm not getting high-impact exercise, I am doing 45-60 minutes of casual walking per day.

Keep up the great progress. I would not be overly concerned because you will hit a stall fairly soon and then you will be asking why you aren't losing fast enough. LOL! Everyone has different body types which results in a different loss rate.

Did the doc and NUT not say 3 meals and 3 Snacks, the snacks being small Protein servings?

Mine did. The idea is to prevent muscle loss.

I think a significant amount of my rapid initial weight loss was muscle mass.

I am now stalled at around 7 pounds from my goal because I am weight training and doing cardio and adding muscle back on which weighs more that fat. During this time my fat is still coming off as revealed by the mirror and my clothing sizes.

Having adequate muscle mass is a good insurance against putting fat back on.

Nope, they said 3 meals for me. Regarding the muscle loss, they have Protein requirements which increase each week. Currently my daily protein goal is 35 grams which I'm now able to easily take in with fish/chicken.

OK, always do what they say, they know your case. Looks like they are gradually increasing your intake, not a bad thing.

I think my people looked at hulking and menacing me and decided realistically, for my wife's sake, that I needed a lot of intake. Sort of the "if you don't feed the bear a lot he could get very cranky" school of thought.:D

Ya, don't know what I was thinking. Like there wouldn't be many Kim Barnes type people in Indiana or California. If you were Desmerelda Grondonclasenstinklemeyer we might have had a match.^_^

Hey Kim,

I was a fast loser too. I lost 34lbs in my first 4 weeks, 85lbs in 15weeks. I didn't have a stall at all till my 16th week. Unfortunately when my stall showed up it was a big one. So far I've been stalled 7 weeks. It will come to an end & I will start dropping again, but when, I don't know.

I'm not trying to curse you here, just trying to keep you from getting discouraged when/if the big one hits. ;)

Wow, good for you! (For the fast-losing part!) What causes stalls, any idea?

Wow' date=' good for you! (For the fast-losing part!) What causes stalls, any idea?[/quote']

I learned initially from BTB that stalls are caused by the absorption of Water in the muscles as glycogen levels replenish. The stall is over once the glycogen levels decrease because of use by the muscles. Glycogen is created from stored fat if carb levels are sufficiently low. As the glycogen goes down, the Water is no longer needed and the cycle continues. That is why stalls are almost expected every few weeks on average. BTB, let me know if I represented stalls correctly based on my understanding of it. The best thing to do is to wait it out, but you might get some positive breakaway from a stall by more exercise or more food. Not sure about this myself, but I have been fairly successful with just reading during a stall and waiting it out.

Wow 35 grams of Protein a day is not alot. I guess each Doc is different but I need to consume at least 60 grams a day to help prevent Hair loss, muscle loss, damage to vital organs. I too have two Snacks a day but at each meal I have two ounces of protein; same for my snacks.

Like I said, each week, the Protein goal increases.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
