I'm going to try and make it. I haven't been to a support group yet either.. but I am curious to go and meet different people.

Hi I met with doctor davis on 2/21 and I really like him. I feel confident in my decision to choose him. He is very thorough in explaining the procedure, the things i would go through after. I did however fail to ask him if there was a pre op diet and what it consisted of. Were u on a preop diet?

sheree212 - yes - I am surprised they haven't put you in contact with Meagan yet (the dietician) - that was a pre-req for me for the surgery. You will have to meet with her at least 2 times before surgery - one to talk about nutrition in general and another right before surgery to talk about pre and post op diet. They want you to be on liquids for about a week before surgery and only clear the day before. I say about a week - because they moved my surgery date up and I only had 4 days. The reason is because they want to try to reduce your liver fat as much as possible so they don't "knick" it while doing the sleeve. are you going to the post op support group on the 11th or are you doing the pre-op support group? If it is in the evening - it is post-op. Hope to meet you there!

Hi I have one more group session left. Then I will have a one on one with megan. I think I met with my surgeon early because dr singh said o was doing well. I have lost 20 lbs in one month. I hope the pre diet is a week because because I could inagine a liquid diet before surgery would be very difficult.

beauty - I wish I would lose 30 lbs a month.... my experience says differently. I lost about 20 the first month - and I'm approaching the end of my 2nd month and I have been extremely faithful to the program AND have kicked up my exercise dramatically and have lost 12 lbs so far (with about 5 days to go).... I have also seen others posts and the weight slows down - sort of like slow and steady. My first post op appt. my doc said the first 1/2 of the weight loss (in my case 50 lbs) is from the surgery alone, the last half is from what I do for myself (eating and exercising right). Let me know how the trend continues for you... I guess everyone is different, so I wish you a safe and speedy loss :-)

We shall see. Im thinking he said that so I would push to get it off as quick as possible. Also, I recall my NUT saying that about 8lbs a month was expected but with the knowledge that some months will be more and others less. So im going to exercise and eat right but i refuse to kill myself!

Meanwhile I've already hit a stall...sigh....

Oh I know all about the stall (sigh here too)... I went about a week and a half before I decided not to look at the scale for 5 days (Tuesday is my big moment, and if I haven't lost weight, I will throw up :-)).... I also increased my calories (they say your body thinks it's starving, so goes into storage mode) and I increased my "movement"... i was already exercising well - so I just started moving more - more housework, more walking around instead of sitting, etc.... we'll see on Tuesday (my 2 month post-op weigh in) if it paid off - I KNOW it is FRUSTRATING!!!! hang in there - I'll let you know if my changes did the trick or not....

My surgeon told me 10-12lbs per month was sufficient and that I would get to my goal in less than a year.....OAN I only weigh once a week always have, I saw others experience and realized anything more often would probably stress me out. I found that even if I have a week that I only loose 1lbs the following week my body makes it up even with me doing the same things with food and exercise. Dont stress about the number too much because if you look at the big picture you are both doing awesome.

BTW I have never been a fast looser but I lm down 70lbs and went from a 22W to 14misses in 4 months, and those numbers make me feel good. My hope is to be at goal around July/August!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
