So Im obviously over weight and have high blood pressure. I do not take meds, but do have them. Will they still perform my surgery if its pretty high? Granted I have had a horrible day.... but considering i listed it as a co morbid thing..Should I worry. Im afraid they might cancel it once I get there? Im guessing it will be high there too with the worrying:-(

When is your surgery??? Are you able to take your meds? I don't know about after you are sleeved, BUT high BP is a concern when you go under anethesia... You can probably google it, I think. My BP was close to the high range (but not over) and my PCP was concerned. I was prescribed a very mild BP medication to take for the next three weeks prior to my surgery. She told me having borderline BP wasn't a deal breaker for me, but wanted me to get it down prior to surgery even if just a little lower. My BP wasn't considered high however, just borderline. How high is yours?

I had surgery in Mexico (you can read about it here). The day of my surgery, I ended up arriving late due to travel delays and re-routing. By the time I got there, i hadn't eaten or drank anything for about 15 hours. My blood pressure was pretty high (154/97...something like that). I was surprised because it had NEVER been so high. Usually 120/80. So they checked it again. Same...high. They did an EKG (or is it ECG??). I asked the cardiologist if my bp would be a problem and he said it was probably high due to my travel, but that they'd give me something during surgery, but not to worry. I was worried. But now I'm 4 months out and bp is normal and no problems from surgery at all. If you're worried, you should ask your surgeon. Good luck. :)

I agree with the other poster. You don't want to do anything to endanger your health. But please, please, PLEASE talk to your surgeon prior to going all the way to Mexico. I'm sure in doing bariatric surgery, you wouldn't be the first high bp patient they've seen. But they may have specific instructions for you. Rather than asking on this forum and coming up with a decision, talk to the person who's hands you're putting your life in. Good luck! :)

I agree with everyone else muffin, take those meds! My BP is around the same as yours, and I'm on meds too. If its a cost issue, or because of side effects, your Dr may be able to prescribe something different. I'd hate for you to get down there and have to postpone surgery to get your BP down. Hopefully after surgery you won't need them for much longer anyway.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
