A Couple Of Questions....

Recommended Posts

I think there is a HUGE difference in your intake at 1 month post-op versus your intake at 1-year post-op so that's kind of a wide range. I'm 5 weeks post-op and I take in between 350 and 400 calories per day. Examples of what my stomach is good with for a meal: 1 egg OR 5 medium-sized shrimp OR 2 TBSP's Peanut Butter. I'm not always 'bursting' but my surgeon told me to simply eat until you are satisfied, not until you are full (or your stomach will stretch).

In the first week after surgery, 2 ounces of liquid made me BURSTING-full.

You'll definitely see your intake increase the further you get along post surgery. I'll be 10 months since my sleeve next week, and I can definitely eat more than I could in the beginning. I'm not sure on exact numbers or ounces, but I can just tell my body can handle more (still nothing compared to pre-sleeve or a non-sleeved person, but more.) I, in some ways, welcome the ability to eat a little more because I feel like I'm able to get more Vitamins, minerals, and all around nutrition from food and that just makes me feel a little more secure. Or maybe I'm just crazy. Either way. :) Good luck!

I am 2 months out and am between 800-900 calories daily. Have DR and NUT appointment next week and hope to increase to 1000 since I am weight lifting 4 days per week.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
