Yes, sleevers can take NSAIDs of all kinds (including aspirin), which is one of the reasons I got the sleeve. Hope you feel better! (I love aspirin-C too.)

I was told that it depends on what stage of healing you are at. Obviously, aspirin is not recommended early post op, but I'm allowed to take it now, in moderation.

I'm also allowed ibuprofen and other meds now that I'm a year post op because the assumption is that I am totally healed from my sleeve. I've never been big on any kind of medication, but it's nice to know I can use the ibuprofen if my carpal tunnel acts up. :)

If you're unsure whether YOU are allowed to take a medication, your doctor is your best source on information, not a message board. :)

Whether or not you take aspirin should really be discussed with yor doctor - too late for you but any pre-sleevers or those inclined to kake aspirin ask, because:

You are healing, and it involved alot of blood vessels, also this stresses you in various ways that can also affect your circulatory system.

Besure you are not anemic, becoming so, etc...new varicose veins, previous ulcers and or blood clots or free bleeding, etc. are all good indications you should not take aspirin now.

With that said, I DO know of 1 (yes just one, but) complication directly related to taking aspirin post-op. She developed bleeding on the exterior staple line. not a fissure or leak, but a blood vessel that would not close. The doctor thinks it would have healed on its own had she not been a regular aspirin user.

I didn't realize you were in Dubai, but your doctor should really have instructed you on meds. :)

Its weird how all surgeons are different. I talked to my surgeons nurse today and she said no Nsaids cuz there's a chance for ulcers to develop.

From what I understand, you can take NSAID's/Aspirin several months post-surgery - but on a very occassional basis only. It's best to avoid them if possible.

That being said, I agree with those who recommend contacting your surgeon (even if in Dubai :) )

Hope you feel better soon!

I actually quite disagree with the notion that one should ONLY listen to one's own personal doctor/surgeon. Yes, one should listen to one's doctor/surgeon AND do plenty of first-hand reading of the research and actual data (not the RnY rules that are just ham-fistedly applied to sleeves by lazy/paranoid bariatric practices) AND apply liberal amounts of common sense as well. Doctors are certainly not infallible, so I think it's always a good idea to incorporate multiple data points and sources into one's own post-op practices.

Our surgeon was great and very efficcient but get info about anything from them was difficult. My friend today told me there is a phycician at the surgeon's practice as well and I might start seeing him.My guy is sweet and have known me for years but he is not to clued up about bloods and stuff for the sleeve.

I decided that I havent taken asprin for so many years now anyway, having the band before, that I wont take it now.My motto is if in doubt, dont. Not always very brave but useful in cases like this...lol

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
