I've been experimenting w/ shakes as well. first off, your tastes may change after surgery so don't go stocking up on anything until trying them after surgery. second, my own personal experience, I tried shakes w/ 10-15g of Protein per serving...these tasted good but it did not keep cravings away or give me a sense of fullness for any substantial length of time. The 25g Protein Shakes are less tasty but gave me a greater sense of fullness.

A side note, the tasty ones also did that tyrant business to me about 2 hours after I drank them, my guts were a freakin orchestra for the rest of the day.

What kinds did you get?

I started out with the Special K Protein shakes, but my doc pointed out how high in carbs and low in Protein it was, so those were out. I had to go to GNC to find a good one. The ones I'm using now are Amplified whey Protein 60 and they have 40g protein with 5g carbs in 8oz. I drink one every morning.

I love the OH YEAH's... vanilla Cream and strawberry Cream are my current favs. I ain't big on chocolate though. And just to clarify, but you mean the oh yeah bars are high in carbs right? I know the vanilla shake only has 4 g carbs & 3 sugars and I don't think that is high... or is it? (I think you meant the bars though... just making sure)

I'm currently emptying an Isopure tub, its eh, 50g Protein, 220 calories, 1g fat and i want to say 3g sugar? I could be wrong. You can half that and still be just fine.

the equivalent 2 scoops of Muscle Milk light is, maybe 200 calories, 25g of Protein and 2g sugar and 6g fat.

I enjoyed the nectar chocolate as well, I might have to price check that since Isopure is $45 on sale for 3lbs

LOL! Haven't had surgery yet, but have been experimenting with shakes and powders and I have to say...UH-hem...not only do I have a very vocal tummy after ingesting, but some wicked-bad gas as well!! :( Hope this doesn't continue after surgery, all my support persons will be heading for the hills!

Same here. It's less w/ the Isopure but after googling it, it's looking to me like it's a byproduct of the Protein. Mostly it's just very uncomfortable throughout the day. My nut said that i really needed to pick a shake i more than was just ok w/....right...all the ones I liked, even the muscle milk, she nixed...

I"m also preop, i did my last appointment for my requirement last week. They're submitting my papers and we'll see about setting a date soon. I was really hoping for end of year but it will most likely be the beginning of the next.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
