I've been noticing since I've stopped eating with meals, that I'm not going as often. Is this a sign of dehydration? I'm also not urinating as much. I usually drink the bulk of my Water with meals, because it's hard for me to get down water when I'm not eating. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I'm so constipated that I haven't gone #2 all day, which is highly unusual for me. I took Miralax, but I'm in pain from the Constipation.< /p>

I am post op and I have the same problem. I had surgery on 9-12-12 and I had only gone #2 once since then before I had to go to the hospital. I usually go everyday (pre op) but now I hardly go. I had to have enemas, suppositories and mag citrate and I only went after 4 days in the hospital. I have gone twice since coming home, but now I don't worry like I did before. I have to take colace everyday and make sure that I get Fiber in.

I'm still way preop, so it's not from the surgery and lack of eating. I just am wondering if it could be because I'm not getting enough Water.< /p>

Dehydration can contribute to Constipation. After surgery the biggest problem that most people experience is constipation/dehydration. Water is very important. for occasional constipation senna is a good laxative for when you are seriously backed up. Senna comes in pill form and also in a tea. for staying normal i take Probiotics and colace.

Okay, thank you. I usually don't have a problem, and usually when I do, it's not so painful. The fact that I haven't been peeing much makes me think I'm not getting enough Water.< /p>

My experience was that pre-op I was constipated because of the Protein. post op my body took a while to work things out. I came home from the hospital with milk of magnesia but that was very rough on my...it made me RUN to the bathroom. I wanted something that was a bit gentler so I used mirlax and after a few weeks things worked out. and only occasionally happened after that...and I just went back to a few days of mirlax and I was back to myself. From my surgeons team...constipation is very common.

That being said...if you arent getting you Fluid...keep trying. I used a timmer on my phone to remind me to drink...set it after eating and when it goes off...start drinking. Really helped me...still do it sometimes.

If you are far from surgery why aren't you drinking with your food? If you are trying to give up drinking with your food, you had better add it in elsewhere. You will need to drink after surgery.

I'm preop and I wanted to go on the liquid diet that I will be on 2 weeks before my surgery. I stayed on it for a full week, WOW! It was so painful, I didn't go for 5 days!!! It was bad!! I have had 3 children and all three were easier than that! I had to use suppositories, sorry TMI!!! So my recommendation is to have all of those thing on hand, when I do it before my surgery I will take maralax everyday! I drink over 100 oz of Water everyday day and that didn't even help!! I hope it's easier next time! I meet my Surgeon this Thursday!! Yay!!!

I'm not drinking with my meals because I have been told to try to adopt the lifestyle BEFORE surgery. Also, I feel full longer if I don't drink with meals, which is really helping me not overeat.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
