Waiting On Insurance For Desicison

Recommended Posts

Hi All i am currently waiting on insurance to make a desicsion on my surgery . i am having major issues right now with eating, I can barely eat mushies most days , so i am hoping they hurry up . Most of my friends and family dont understand my anxiety when it comes to getting approval for the revsion as well. I had the band in 2007 lost 125 pounds got down to 125 pounds , slipped it 2 times and now im back up to 225 pounds , i started at 250 . With all my issues my family and friends just think " Oh the insurance HAS to pay to get it removed at least" that's half my worries. With PCOS I have to get a revision as well.

Anyway , Just worried, anxious , nervous etc. waiting !

Thanks for listening.

Mindy

I know how stressful it is waiting to find out if the insurance will pay for the revision. My dad is currently waiting for his approval after having his band removed due to slippage, they denied him the first time because his BMI wasn't high enough yet. It's really sad how he has gained every pound that he lost back because he is hungry all the time. His lapband surgeon has been no help what so ever, and still has his picture up as a success story, sorry I just ventured off topic there. Good luck on getting a decision soon, I also have PCOS, and know how fast the weight gain comes and how hard it is to get off.

So, do keep in touch with your surgeon as your symptoms progress - particularly with the weekend coming up. I was told that a slipped band can go from no/few symptoms to completely cutting off your ability to even drink Water quite quickly. If that happens, you have emergency surgery. I would also ask their advice on consuming food - does it make sense to switch to Protein drinks to minimize risk of vomiting or anything else that might cause more slippage? Again, I have no idea, but these are the questions I would get answered during business hours.... well, just in case things get worse.

Hang in there and hopefully you get approval soon!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
