joe_cltnc 7 Posted October 16, 2012 Does anyone have kidney pain after drinking so many Protein Shakes? Ive tried different brands and get the same pain. Thanks!
Banned member 320 Posted October 16, 2012 Yup that's why I only drink 1 Protein Shake a day (32g protein). My other Protein comes from meats, cheese, and other high sources of protein. Plus Protein Shakes tend to upset my stomach. How far post op are you?
Catracks 865 Posted October 16, 2012 A high Protein diet can be hard on the kidneys. Check with your doctor. I don't have any symptoms except for a very high ammonia content in my urine. Sorry if TMI, but it's something to be aware of.
O.T.R. sleever 3,386 Posted October 16, 2012 Sounds to me like you have some kidney stones. High Protein, high Calcium, & high sugar diets are known to cause kidney stones. We are all pretty much fit squarely into these categories. Sugar & Calcium before surgery, Protein & calcium after. There are many natural treatments out there for this from apple cider vinegar, to olive oil & lemon juice. Or your doctor can laser them to break them up and make them passable(OUCH!) joe_cltnc 7 Posted October 16, 2012 Thanks All, I'm still pre-op but have started adding Protein Shakes to replace 1-2 meals a day to get accustomed. I'd never considered this before, but once I started having the pain... Yes, I get kidney stones, some have passed and others surgically removed.
