Aaaack! My Motivation Has Stalled! Someone Tell Me I Can Do This!

Recommended Posts

I'm almost halfway to where I want to be and I've just flat lost my motivation. I feel dangerously close to slipping into old, bad habits. "Just a bite of this or piece of that won't hurt." Before you know it.... Well....you know the story. You've lived it.

I"m still exercising. I still can't eat more than a "sleeve sized" portion of food, so a binge in the true sense is impossible, but if anyone could gain weight on little food, it would be me. I've not gained, but certainly dead in the Water. It's not a "stall" like we all talk about. It's just me. I'm stalled. I'm stalling. I don't know what's wrong with me. I just need to push through this, but I need to reset my brain again!!

NEWBIES: Don't think this can't happen to you or that surgery is magic fairy dust!! It's blood sweat and tears, but worth it. Even at a time like this, I will tell you it's worth the effort. But it IS hard work, make no mistake and don't let anyone tell you different. You WILL get hungry and your old habits WILL try to haunt you. It's a battle we will wage the rest of our lives. The sleeve is a tool that will make that battle easier, but it doesn't work without YOU.

OLDTIMERS: Did you go through this??? How did you get through it?? Tell me I can do this!!!

I just needed to be accountable to you all. I feel better. Now I need a good butt kickin'!

Here's me from today....

You look great! Keep your eye on the prize! Try giving yourself little rewards such as a message, nails, hair etc! That way you have something to look forward to

Don't make me have to book a load there and light a fire under your butt. You are not giving up.

Do you have your goals written down? How long ago did you sit down and rewrite your goals? Let's do it again.

Focused intensity is the thing that's gonna get you where you want to be.

The enemy of great is good. You have been doing so well. If you had slipped badly it would be easy to get focused again, but because you've been doing so well, it's easy to lose intensity.

Another thing you might consider is a couple day break with a plan on renewed focus starting on the 3rd day. Just like when you work hard at work, you might need a small vacation.

Awwww crap! I forget you can get to Albuquerque quite handily! Ok, ok.... I be good girl. I will take your suggestion under advisement. Sounds like a good plan. I need to re-plan a plan. Take a break and dive in again. Thanks......Keep kicking. (what does your truck look like in case I need to hide???;)

Just remember you are motivation for us newbies too! Do it for us who are newly sleeved or getting ready for surgery! 92 lbs lost is great motivation for us :) We are moving forward in this together...

btw you look fab! My biggest motivator for me right now is walking into clothes stores and imagining what I will be looking like and wearing in the coming spring/summer...saving my $$$ for a big clothes shopping spree.

Hey there Doot! I am struggling with the same demons--Tootsie Rolls are the devil, that's all I have to say on that subject. I am using this struggle as a learning experience just like every other part of this process has been. I think those people who have maintained a healthy weight throughout their lives as well as are truly healthy have done so through balance. They don't binge eat on sweets or junk, but when they do indulge, they balance that with exercise and eating healthy the rest of the time. I am in no way trying to justify binge eating or stuffing my face with those danged tootsie rolls, but I have figured out that if the urge hits and I have a "midge" and I LOG IT INTO MY DIARY AND ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT, its not the end of the world. But I get you, I can easily see how the old ugly ways can begin to rear their ugly head--emotional eating, boredom eating, making excuses to skip exercising, etc--if we open that door just a little too widely.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
