I have been on losers bench for 5 weeks with no acid reflux issues. Today I woke up and cant eat or drink anything the acid is so bad. I don't know what caused such a huge change. I do take a prescribed an acid medicine and took it and there is no change. Any suggestion?

Heartburn and Reflux are the only issues that I have had since my surgery, I take over the counter Antacid's twice a day. I have tried a few including Zantac, Prilosec and even a generic that I found at Sam's, They seem to work for about a month and then I need to switch up. I do find relief in chewing Tums here and there. I have more heartburn than reflux... THANK GOD but the other day the acid came up and it was horrible... Burnt, made me gag and cough and was just very uncomfortable. I have a Dr's appt on the 22nd to see about getting on another prescription strength antacid. All in all I am happy that this is all that I have to deal with... I've lost 98 lbs in 6 months and feel amazing!!!

Good Luck!

Your prescribed PPI will not give immediate relief to excess acid. What it does is slow the production of further acid. What you need now is something like tums, pepto, etc. just keep in mind tgat you don't want to get into the habit of taking tums too often as one of its side effects is that it stimulates acid production.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
