Going Broke Buying New Clothes!

Recommended Posts

Well, I suppose it's a good place to be... buying all new clothes! But it's expensive!

I work in a professional setting and am in senior management, so I need to dress up a little. I had to buy all new spring/summer clothes, bought just enough for a week. Now I am buying all new fall/winter clothes, just enough for a week. I have a few pounds left to lose, so I bet I have to buy all new spring/summer again next year!

In spite of going broke, I'm having the time of my life! I can't believe I'm not shopping in the Plus Size section at retail stores or shopping Plus Size sites online!! I usually have no idea what size I wear, so I throw 3 sizes of whatever in my bag. Heck, I can't believe I'm out shopping at all - before I couldn't stand and walk that long.

I'm trying to keep purchases centered around a color/style theme so I can mix and match, but I will NOT buy black ever again! I used to try to hide behind black. No more!

Sorry to brag - just happy happy happy!

Congratulations. Have you thought about a tailor? I have too wide range of sizes and my clothing tends to be conservative. I plan to use a tailor to adjust as I go along, far less expensive than purchasing new clothing.

Congrats!

I know the feeling although I have not had my surgery yet.. (10/17 is the date for me). I have sizes in my closet ranging from 14 to 6. I have yo yo'd so much over the past 5 years. I think I can wing it til I get to below a 6. Then I plan to go raid my daughters closet. She lost down to a 0 without surgery. I'm thinking this is a little advantage for me.

I sew and am altering the new things for better fit - but from 3X to 12/14 is just too extreme for alterations! My summer tops, bought in May or June, are literally falling off around my shoulders! I may be able to use the new fall/winter things next year though, with a little nip tuck.

Do consider a tailor, and I suggest consignment shops.

When you buy, I recommend you avoid asymetrical clothing, or clothing that has the bias in it in a very specific way - buy wool blends, cottons, etc.and in solid colors that will allow for easier tailoring when those clothes become too large.

I always check the clearenc rack first. And I purchased a size 12-14 pants last week I can get them on but just barely. they will hang in the closet for a few weeks. But they were a good price. I've got 30 more pounds to go but I'm getting there.

I have also put a dent in my credit card the last few months trying to get a whole new wardrobe. I had a whole range of sizes in my closet collected over the years, but now can't fit in a single one of them. I donated 2 laundry baskets full of clothes to our local hospital thrift shop. It has been so fun, and so ego building, to shop in the regular size clothing. Even if I don't buy anything it is fun. I tried on pants this weekend and took 3 sizes in the dressing room - they were all too big around the waist! Love it!

Great place to be (well except for going broke...lol!) But isn't it amazing to not have to shop in one tiny sqaure of a huge store (plus size goodbye forever!)

If you have the time and inclination, I recommend Goodwill or similar thrift/consignment shops. I've found brands like Polo Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Jones NY, Coldwater Creek, Aerosoles, Steve Madden, and Kenneth Cole all at second hand stores. It takes more time to shop (and I wash everything with a bit of vinegar or have it dry cleaned) but I've found TONS of good deals that don't break the bank. Good luck, it's fun to shop now, isn't it?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
