Had bow tie Pasta today and I tolerated it well but I'm just wondering if that's part of a soft food diet? I'm on that stage but I was confused. It Sunday and my Nut is out of office til Monday.

Pasta, bread, potato, and rice are specifically not allowed by my plan through the first six months post-op. After that, they are strongly discouraged...because they're simple starches, and not particularly good food choices (and for many of us play a large role in why we ended up needing surgery in the first place). Ask your nutritionist....my bet is they'll tell you to avoid them, and to focus on Protein, rather than carbs.

Best of luck

I was told I could have baked potatos as part of my mushy food stage, and I have had Pasta but a little bit filled me up quick. I don't want any food "off limits" but have noticed that when I had a white carb I have more craving or am hungry more during the rest of the day so I am going to try cutting out the whtie carbs. That is just me tho!

This goes back to the debate of "acceptable" vs "ideal".

Pasta, rice, potatoes, & breads are are all "acceptable" in small quantities. However, they have little to no nutritional content and are of no benefit to your body. They are also high starch foods that are almost immediately converted to sugar by the body. Furthermore these high starch foods are self perpetuating, they trigger cravings for more starches. So the more you eat them the more you'll want them.

Are they going to harm you? No, not if kept in very small quantities. Keep in mind these do tend to swell in your stomach so I really do mean very small quantities.

Are they going to slow your weight loss & keep you from reaching your goals as quickly as possible? Absoloutly.

Get wheat carbs: wheat or whole grain pastas, breads, (brown) rice etc...

I personally enjoy cooking a small portion of brown rice with grilled or steamed veggies and some teriyaki sauce, it tricks my mind into thinking I'm eating panda express hahah.. just get creative with your plates, but in a HEALTHY way!
