Interesting. Thank y'all for setting me straight on the Protein Shots. I thought they were ok because I first found them on a bariatric website that my doc uses. I'm only 2 months post op and I admit that I'm still learning. I'm still in the trial and error stage...mostly errors.

OK I goofed. When I saw the word 'Whey' in the name I thought it was the same as the ones I ordered from Bariatric Advantage web site. I just checked and it's not. The 'Yes Whey' brand says it is 100% whey. Again, thank you guys...I'm serious. I took for granted they were the same since the name was so similar. https://www1.bariatricadvantage.com/catalog/list/11/Protein

Tbearfan,

That was SO helpful! The Protein Shots are right up my ally. I can't handle the Unjury chicken broth flavored drink, it's way too salty for me. I bought the New Whey shots, literally right after I read your post. Until I can drink the milk based Protein drinks, these seem very tolerable! And much less stressful to drink 3.4 fl oz instead of 8! Thank you!

I only intend on drinking these until I am able to drink the other Protein Drinks. It's a decent substitute until that time comes. :)

That's fine, but the simple fact is that because of the type of Protein used in that shot, you really need to count them as 4grams of Protein, because that is all your body will be able to absorb. Less than 10%. I won't say anything else about this on this thread.

First things first, I see that you are 1 week post op. how are you doing on your Fluid intake(water)? There is a very good possibility that your stomach still has too much swelling to tolerate the heaviness of a Protein drink.

Also, do not waste your money on Protein Shots. They are completely useless. The Protein they contain is not useable by the human body.

My Fluid intake is really good. It took about 3 days to get it back up there. and I am tolerating soft foods the Nut. told me to start soft foods about day 3.

My iPhone totally ruined my last post. I meant to say I tried the Protein Shots to get in my Protein and I don't know how you can stand them. The watermelon and grape were so nasty. Are they possibly any better now

Check out syntax nectar and matrix products. I have found them to be tasty mix well in Water (. Or milk) and offer a high amount of Protein ( 23 grams plus 7-8 more for milk). Syntax offers a lot of different favors; find one that works for you. I like the sweet versions like chocolate truffle and double cookie and vanilla crime and...

I really like the Syntrax Protein Shakes and the nectar. I am lactose intolerant and one of my favorite ways to get Protein is to make sugar free Jello pudding with Lactaid milk. Then I add Isopure vanilla Protein Powder and I think they are really yummy. Sometimes I add a teaspoon of sugar free cool whip and I feel like I am having dessert!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
